Enzo turned 20 today 🥹😭

Since his birthday also fell on Derby Day, it was only fitting to wear my @circuitstyle "the best things in life are off the track" top, because Enzo is truly one of the best things in mine. As much as I joke that I wish he would act his age, I hope you keep aging backwards and causing chaos until you're 40, bud.

Happy birthday to my heart & soul, the comeback king, the speediest and freshest of dragons. Here's to many more together 🩷

Just when I think this pony can't get any cooler, he goes and does this! 🥇🥇🥇 He was an absolute star at a schooling show, winning our Intro C, Training 1, and Training 2 classes with 69%, 67%, 69%. I have nevvver done this well in dressage – thank you, Buzzy 💗

A little late on the upload after a whirlwind week, but had so much fun at the MD 5* with @katiespanos! The grounds were beautiful & I got to meet the lovely @two_exracers & Bam in person. Bam has the same sire as Enzo, Jump Start, so I'm definitely not biased in them being my favorite FEI eventers 😜 Can't wait to cheer them on here next year!

On the topic of Thoroughbreds (as if I'm not always), I of course had to wear my @circuitstyle OTTB tee for XC day (use code LAUREN15 to save on one or another breed/design!). It turned out to be a solid choice, as the only 5* horse to make the time was a TB: Phelps, JC name Tiz Special.

As someone on a shoestring budget who wants to make it to the mid-upper levels of eventing one day, I try to study the bloodlines of UL Thoroughbreds to give myself a better shot at finding a diamond in the rough. If anyone else is curious, here's what I found cross-referencing the 5-gen pedigrees of the 5* & 3* TBs and adjusting for statistical insignificance (aka my best attempt at removing overly common sires like Secretariat in a chaotic Excel spreadsheet to try and find unique links so take this with a grain of salt):

⭐️ AP Indy is one of my personal favorite lines, but I was surprised how prevalent he was in ~60% of the 5 in the 5* & 9 in the 3*
⭐️ Of AP Indy's sons: 2 in the 3* had the same sire, Malibu Moon, and 2 in the 5* were Pulpit grandfoals
⭐️ 40% of the 5*s had Princequillo, Tom Rolfe, Turn-To, or Danzig
⭐️ In the 3*, 5/9 horses also went back to Turn-To, with 4 of them being through Halo
⭐️ Other misc. sire lines that popped up a few times include Graustark, Kris S, Lyphard, Blushing Groom & Sir Ivor

🎶 It's about to get wenglish 🤠

Found out 3 days before leaving for a show that we misread the class list and dressage was only for Arabians/half-Arabians... but the western dressage division was open to all breeds. Since we were going for miles rather than to be competitive anyways, I said what the heck, sure, and thus began a 48-hour mad dash. Thanks to my barn fam we were able to cobble together tack & apparel, and off we went!

I had ridden in a western saddle a whopping 1 time in my life and Buzz never before Thursday night, so I was really embodying my @circuitstyle Adult Amateur Hour tee this weekend 😂 We still had a blast and Buzz was the very best boy. I'm a broken record, but I'm just so proud of this pony; he tries his heart out and is a gem whatever we throw at him. This was schooling after arrival, at night, by himself, in an intimidating ring, our second time riding western, and he didn't bat an eye 🫶

Buzz 🚀

From a nervous, spooky horse that took off running when I first got on him in May to being calm and confident enough to read a trail map on his back, this little guy has come such a long way 🥹 He was such a good boy for a trail ride with my barn yesterday, and I can't wait to take him on a hunter pace next weekend! It'll be bittersweet not going with Enzo but I'm so grateful to have ponies like this to work with and owners that trust me with them.

As a small business owner I try really hard to go out of my way to support other small businesses. Sure it’s more convenient and maybe cheaper to order from big companies like SmartPak and Dover, but those sales don’t impact them the way they do small businesses. Derby weekend always makes me extra sentimental about this horse & breed 🏇 If you have a Thoroughbred too, what's their Jockey Club name? Enzo's is Royal Ignition 🏎 He retired at 9 after 48 starts
