Happy full moon 🌝Tonight's theme is removing masks. I don't mean the face masks we have to wear to protect ourselves and our communities from the virus but rather the masks we wear to hide our authentic selves. Looking forward to diving into the shadow work with @cirossy and @martastaudinger. Go to @latelacuratorial to join the full moon circle tonight at 7pm ✨

The Black And White Photo Challenge started in Turkey where a women’s rights campaign began as a way of rebelling against the violence Turkish women face.

Protests in Turkey broke out after a 27-year-old woman, Pınar Gültekin was strangled, burned and murdered by her ex-boyfriend in the Mugla province last week.

Femicide is a huge issue in Turkey, with 474 women murdered in 2019 – the highest figures in a decade and due to the coronavirus, 2020 figures are expected to be even worse.

"Turkey is one of the top countries when it comes to femicides. Most often the murderers barely get a slap on a wrist or no charges at all… Our government is trying to abolish certain aspects of [the] Istanbul Convention which is a human rights treaty that protects women against domestic violence… Turkish people wake up every day to see a black and white photo of a woman who has been murdered on their Instagram feed, on their newspapers, on their TV screens. The black and white photo challenge started as a way for women to raise their voice. To stand in solidarity with the women we have lost. To show that one day, it could be their picture that is plastered across news outlets." @imaan.patel

We are BLACK WOMEN!… We too have a VOICE… We don’t tear down other BLACK WOMEN!… we have felt the pain of NOT BEING HEARD and we have decided we will deliberate about building up others! All too often, we women find it easier to criticize each other, instead of building each other up. With all the negativity going around let's do something positive! Upload 1 picture of yourself… ONLY you. Then tag as many sisters as you want to do the same. Let’s build ourselves up, instead of tearing ourselves down. Thank you @nadiyastar for tagging me. COPY AND PASTE if I tagged you, don’t disappoint me!!! 🖤🙏🏽🖤

I understand the concept of solidarity. If you do decide to post a black square, please don't tag black lives matter, the black squares are flooding their feed. And don't stop at a black square. Donate. Support. Vote. Call. Sign. Empathize. Educate. Do the work.
I will not be posting until or after June 7 in solidarity and in order to #amplifymelanatedvoices Some of the people below have given me opportunities to show or supported my art. Many are artists I have exhibited with and others are local artists admire. Some are healers and some friends. All are local to DC. I see you. I am so grateful for you. Thank you. Please follow them and listen to their voices.

At Logan 14, our greatest strength is our humanity. The essence of our business draws strength from our people, and those people represent a diverse, vibrant, and unique assembly of individuals who, together, create something larger than just themselves. Logan 14 will always strive to be a pillar of the community that fosters diversity, fairness, and love. We will be here to help our team members and our guests heal, and to facilitate a larger conversation about how we contribute positively to a society that does not tolerate racial injustice.

I had a really long post written about this. Upon reflection, that felt 100000% besides the point. Through June 7th I am #muted in order to #amplifymelantedvoices, #centerthosemarginalized and #mutewhitenoise. Head to @jessicawilson.msrd and @blackandembodied for all the information behind this challenge.
No comments needed. Just follow the Black leaders tagged in the post, please.

At Logan 14, we recognize that sometimes we must talk about topics other than beauty, health, and wellness. We are outraged by the senseless and brutal death of George Floyd. For our black team members, our black clients, our black neighbors, our black businesses, and our vibrant Washington DC black community: we see you, we hear you, we stand with you.
.
.
We pride ourselves on our diversity and inclusion, so we CANNOT remain silent. We cannot pretend there is not a problem in America. We cannot turn our back on racism. We cannot ignore the loss of innocent lives.
.
.
We CAN spread messages of support and solidarity. We can grieve with our community. We can be outraged that not all folks have the same right to feel protected and safe. We can stand against racist & brutal murder of our black brothers and sisters.
.
.
And we all must take action.
.
.
Today, we will be making a donation on behalf of our Logan 14 team members to Campaign Zero, an online platform that organizes and utilizes research-based policy solution to end police brutality in America. Tomorrow, and every day after, we will continue to uphold our moral imperative to seek justice & and remain steadfast in supporting black people, black families, and black communities. #blacklivesmatter .
