Wildcard - this isn't part of my A to Z marathon - this is a video that I've been looking for 25 years for. (Cirrus - “Back On a Mission”/full music video airing on MTV2 in 2000 - video was released in 1998) The 1998 album under the same name is fantastic - I swear this video was on MTV's AMP - I saw the video once or twice and lost touch with it until I rediscovered it again with 2004's Need For Speed Underground 2, that game has a banger soundtrack haha (This song was also in Twisted Metal 4 in 1999 - unfortunately I didn't play that game until many years later lol) Let's talk about this under-the-radar gem: “Back on a Mission” is the breakout single by Cirrus, released in 1998 through Moonshine Music - one of the biggest U.S. electronic labels of the 90s! The band consists of Aaron Carter (no, not the late pop singer) and Stephen Barry - they were known for live sets that blended DJing, hardware synths, and live percussion - unusual and exciting for the electronic scene at that time. This song fits right in with the late ’90s big beat wave (The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method, Propellerheads, etc), but Cirrus added more “rock-leaning” grit, heavy breakbeats, and sampled vocal stabs. This video was directed by Jason Farrand - is made like a fighting video game of the time (hence the PlayStation in the first 15 seconds) - I just love everything about this video - it's so late ’90s in the best possible way haha Love covering these rarities - never gets old, these are the videos that I grew up with and I'll always be glad to be able to shine a spotlight on them whenever possible. 🙏🏽 Cirrus were only active for 8 years but they made a pretty big impact while remaining low-key on the grand scale, that's something I can respect. ✨ #explorepage #mtv #mtv2 #throwback #cirrusband #bigbeat #breakbeat #electronicrock #acid #techno #musicvideo #ps1 #videogame #1990s #music #tv #television
