Have you seen the new signage on East 6th?

We’re officially on the scene at our new office, right across from the food trucks. If you’ve driven by lately, you may have spotted us.

If you’re in the neighborhood, come say hello.

When your football team disappoints you, @ciscosaustin is the perfect place to recover. Migas & biscuits have been healing Longhorns for decades. Hook ‘em 🤘 (sigh)

Austin Taco History: Tacos, Tejanos, and the Fight against Gentrification
Mexican and Tejano communities built Austin’s food scene from the ground up, from early 1900s street vendors and family-run cafés to the Tejano restaurants that became neighborhood landmarks. Now, as gentrification reshapes the city and pushes out the very communities that created this culinary legacy, they’re fighting to hold onto it. Hear from the people keeping Austin’s taco history alive in a city that’s forgetting who built it.

Our guests include Diana Vasquez-Valera, Tamale House East (since 1958) , Christina Torres, @mimadresrestaurant (since 1990) and Monica Muñoz Martinez, an award-winning author, educator, public historian, and active participant in developing solutions that address racial injustice.

This project is supported in part by an Elevate Grant of Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment.

Yesterday I saw an ICE abduction while taking my Mom to the dentist. My d’water Mina let me know the longtime cooks at the restaurant we get breakfast at, @ciscosaustin, were also abducted by ICE at 6am as they arrived for work. They are stealing the oxygen from the sky. Please protect and defend our beloved neighbors and resist this pervasive terror in every way possible.

🍽️ Austin’s historic restaurants stand as familiar landmarks in a city that is constantly changing. In a relatively short time, new restaurants have opened and closed, neighborhoods have evolved, and the skyline has transformed around these enduring establishments.

It’s easy to lose track of how much time has passed, but these restaurants invite us to pause and remember the decades that came before. Remaining open for 50 years is more than simply surviving; it means adapting to change while preserving the qualities that keep people coming back.

The Texas Treasure Business Award (TTBA) honors longstanding Texas businesses that have been in service for 50 years or more. Across Texas’ four largest metro regions, TTBA restaurants continue to welcome guests to tables rich with history.

Pull up a chair and discover the restaurants that have stood the test of time:
