That time I went to the early @netflix premiere of @shesgottahave screening, meeting Baltimore’s own @dewandawise afterwards followed a Q&A and Wise shared with attendees the importance of no one stopping you from making art, and the power in telling our own stories in film.
.
On modernizing the @shesgottahaveit story: "It was important to me that the story was written by women... Once I heard that women were involved and that Nola was in good hands, I said okay [to playing Nola]." — DeWanda Wise
.
Wise also concluded with how the same historic movie theatre and stage where the Q&A also was held, that not long ago a Birth Of A Nation was premiered and now we are using our strong voices through film in the same theater decades later..
.
@niajunepoetry @4th.eye.diaries and @apoetnamednate shared the same mission at the screening of “A Black Girl’s Country” and premiere of “The Unveiling of God” at @mdffparkway a few weeks ago. Both films written and directed by Nia June!

.
Last chance to see “The Unveiling of God / a love letter to my forefathers” 11/2 at Motor House. RSVP link in @niajunepoetry bio.

“The Unveiling of God/a love letters to my forefathers” is easily the most black, beautiful, & inspiring film I’ve EVER seen. To have contributed my braiding hands to this film was an HONOR! Thank you so much @niajunepoetry 🖤 Make sure y’all come out tonight to Whitelock Community Farm at 7 to view the film!
