One of the happiest moments of my career happened this month. I was given the opportunity to interview the genuinely gracious and profoundly eloquent, Kyle MacLachlan. The man is a national treasure and his autobiography “Fictional Selves: A Memoir” is a deeply thoughtful meditation on his life, cinema and all things David Lynch. It is an absolute must for both fans and the uninitiated.

I would also like to thank @jm.merkle for putting together an incredible clip reel along with each and every person who packed the Sydney Goldstein Theater. Special shout out to Kate, Holly and the entire hard-working staff @CityArtSF, who even placed a limited edition MOViES FOR MANiACS trading card of Mr. MacLachlan into every attendees book. (Post on this thread if you are interested in acquiring a card.)

My 15-year-old self is here to tell you definitively that your dreams can actually come true.

Interested in listening to the interview!?! It will play on the www.KQED.org Broadcast on 10/27/2026 at 10:00pm PST

Mission Local, City Arts & Lectures and The New York Times co-hosted a debate Tuesday between congressional candidates Supervisor Connie Chan and state Sen. Scott Wiener at the historic Sydney Goldstein Theater in San Francisco.

The two are vying to succeed Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, who has held the seat since 1987.

One question we asked the candidates: Do you think your opponent is truly a progressive?

It’s progressive to fight for more housing, public transit improvements, and new parks. I’ve spent my career fighting to build a more affordable, better functioning city by making these improvements.

It’s not progressive to block homes, transit improvements, and parks, as my opponent has done.

Let’s move forward, not backward.

We shouldn’t have to worry about mass displacement every time there is a tech boom in this city. The fact that we do is the result of decades of obstructionist politicians refusing to build.

I have spent my career working to change that so people can continue to live in the best city in the world.

In Congress, I will fight tirelessly to ensure that San Francisco has the resources and funding to build the homes we need.
