UBUNTU, a mural created for City Year Boston’s headquarters—a vibrant welcome into a space rooted in learning, mentorship, teamwork, and possibility. Inspired by the Southern African philosophy of Ubuntu—often expressed as “I am because we are”—this piece celebrates our shared humanity and the ways we grow through connection, care, and collective support.

At the heart of this mural is the daily exchange of joy between students, corps members, mentors, staff, and everyone who shows up to encourage one another. Bright colors drawn from City Year’s palette, along with an energetic language of lines, curves, dots, and geometric forms, create pathways of movement, growth, and forward momentum. I hope this wall reminds us that we thrive when we feel seen, supported, and connected.

Grateful to artist Mario E. Ramirez for assisting and documenting the mural, and to City Year’s leadership for making this project possible.

We’re proud that Ecogenia is one of the founding organizations of the Global Network for National Service, launched as a Commitment to Action at this year’s Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting. 🌍

Together with City Year, Voices for National Service, City Year UK, UK Year of Service, Glasswing International, and City Year South Africa, we’re building a global platform to exchange knowledge, strengthen the evidence for national and citizen service, support emerging programs, and advocate for service opportunities for young people around the world.

For Ecogenia, this is an opportunity to connect our work in Greece to a wider international movement, and to share experiences on how youth service can support skills development, community engagement, and active citizenship.

A big thank you to our Ambassador Katerina Athanasiou, who represented Ecogenia at the launch. We look forward to working with our partners and contributing to the next chapter of this growing network! 🌱

The curtain opened, and with it, so did a world of possibilities. 🎭📚✨

Ahead of the LA premiere of the Tony Award-winning musical @outsidersmusical, City Year Los Angeles and the Stay Gold Project brought together Los Angeles leaders, and special guests, for a kickoff event celebrating the importance of arts access for young people across the nation.

At our pre-show kick-off, guests heard a powerful conversation between @octaviaspencer, City Year Los Angeles Board Member, @angelinajolie and Hank Unger, Producers of The Outsiders, Jim Balfanz, @cityyear CEO, and Emily Baeza, City Year Los Angeles alum, whose journey has taken her from @americorps member to filmmaker. 🎬💛

Then it was time for our Pio Pico students and AmeriCorps members to experience the story themselves! Thanks to The Stay Gold Project and The Crimson Lion / Lavine Family Foundation, our community attended the premiere and stayed for a special Q&A with members of The Outsiders cast.

And the impact continues far beyond one night: copies of The Outsiders will be donated to Pio Pico Middle School for students to enjoy. 📖

We’re incredibly grateful to our partners for helping us open doors to the arts and create unforgettable experiences for our students and AmeriCorps members.

See the LA Times article at the link in our bio.

The Red Jacket is more than something we wear. It represents the service, commitment, and legacy we carry. ❤️

Thank you to Commissioner Tanya Frey for reminding us on Opening Day to wear it proudly and for helping us honor the leadership and service that continue to move City Year Memphis forward.

Proud to wear the jacket. Even prouder to do the work. ❤️

Today, we had the opportunity to attend the 5th Annual Top Cat Construction Expo & 1st Responders Appreciation Event at Southwest Tennessee Community College.

Team Lead, Di’Asia Smith joined our Community Partnership Manager, Ariel Thomas to explore career connections, network with community professionals, and experience another pathway beyond her year of service. She even had the opportunity to connect with Memphis Mayor Paul Young making an already meaningful day that much more memorable.

Even more special, the event was hosted by our Community Partnership Manager’s family company, creating a full-circle moment of family, service, career exposure, leadership, and community. ❤️
