it’s felt like the strangest year to talk about anything other than how the world is burning. i’ve posted less. written less. tried to find more of real-life instants where i think: “being here for *this* was worth the hassle of incarnating.” [it’s funny cuz it’s true.]

one cluster of *this* moments was what i called ‘fake forty’—a decadent act of gathering with a few beloveds in the south of france, since my ‘real’ 40th is to take place a few days after baby 2 is born.

they flew from india, austria, ireland, canada, the us.

they roasted me with a powerpoint that included my very own DSM diagnosis, designed dinner-table prompts about death, being crass and visions for the future, and reminded me what real wealth is: being known.

no matter what january brings when baby 2 and actual 40 arrives, fake forty happened. it’s stored in my body as long as i’m here. xx

Joy persists in tension with the weight of the world. Joy says, “you may try to break us, but you will never erase our spirits.” Joy is a declaration, a tool to affirm life with life.

Joy doesn’t cancel out or escape pain, it sits underneath it, ready to catch you when you reach the bottom of your full experience.

As our world appears to unravel, joy is a glue that keeps us together. I’m so joy-full to be braiding an “us” that’s exploring what it means to claim the rituals, identities & experiences that make us whole.

Lemme introduce ya’ll to STRANGELAND: An experiment to reimagine Jewish culture, for us. Our sunset garden party at @littlecityfarmla was a burst of joy, as you can see👀
