Happy National Coaches Day to the BEST crew around! 🐻❤️💛

Today we celebrate the coaches behind the athletes — the ones who teach, push, encourage, believe, and continue to show up season after season.

It takes a TEAM to build a TEAM. ❤️💛

“I’ve waited 20 years for this.” -Coach CJ.

Woodrow Wilson High School has a legacy of producing world class athletes, sending more to the Olympics than any other school in the country. The last time the cross country program had a team advance to the state meet was 2002…almost a decade before most of the girls on the current team were born. To say their achievement this year is historic is an understatement. Last season they came close, and that hint of what was possible fueled them through hundreds of miles of training and hard workouts to get them to that starting line on Saturday ready to make their mark. They did exactly that…earning their spot on the biggest stage in the state: Woodward Park in Clovis this Saturday for the State Championship meet. We’re all so proud of you girls and we can’t wait to see what happens next! It’s gonna be a Great Day To Be A Bruin!

OH MY! For the first time in 23 years, the Bruins have made it to the @cif State Championship meet! They went into today’s southern section finals needing to be in the top 7, and they ran hard for 6th place against arguably the deepest and most talent packed section in the state! It’s been an amazing season seeing them rewrite the Wilson cross country history books, and they’re ready for one more race at the Big Dance at Woodward Park in Clovis next Saturday! Let’s Go Bruins!!!! #gdtbab #greatdaytobeabruin #cifss #cifxc #crosscountry #lbwilsonxc #longbeach #the562 @hdrunners @rich_prepcaltrack @westcoastxc @the562org @woodyatlbwilson @principalcaverly

Dana Hills Invitational Elite Girls Champs! The girls dominated the race with @mejia.nadia , Audrey, @averyintempo, Ashlei, and @122riley all running sub 18 minutes for the 3 mile course and all seven setting personal bests once again putting their names on the Wilson all-time top ten list. Special shoutout to 800m superstar @lifeof.riy on her 28 second PR and @ella.g.26 for her 19:09 as a freshman in only her second race ever! #lbwilson #longbeach #the562 #xc #cif #roadtostate #seeyouatstate #seeyouinclovis

It was a historic morning for the Lady Bruins at Mt. Sac…qualifying for the CIF southern section cross country finals for the first time in 20 years! They placed 3rd in their division 1 heat and will be racing next weekends championship for a spot at the state meet in Fresno. @mejia.nadia led the way with the overall win and a school course record, while Avery had a great race in 19:34, finishing 12th out of 100 and running a course best by 17 seconds. Congrats girls, you’re an inspiration! @lb_wilson_crosscountry_track @woodyatlbwilson @hdrunners @rich_prepcaltrack @cifss #crosscountry #xc #lbwilson #gdtbab #mooreleague #the562 #mtsac #cifss #cifxc

Some favorites of the (non-Avery) Bruins at the Laguna Hills Invitational. Loved seeing their hard work over the summer pay off in spades. A school course record (@tommy_pincherli) and top ten all-time (@122riley), a team first place (sophomore girls) and course and personal bests all over the place made for a super exciting day. Thank you @lb_wilson_crosscountry_track and @lbwilson_track for putting up with my camera in your faces all the time! @woodyatlbwilson @principalcaverly @lagunahillsxc #xc #crosscountry #hdrunners #prepcaltrack #running
