Three sleeps in NYC 🥱😴🫩
I feel like this Sarah Lucas sculpture trapped behind a metal fence sometimes.

My family thinks it’s great that work brings me back to NYC often. It’s always a struggle to fit it all in and it’s never enough time.

This time I stayed with my second cousin Jean, her mom was my Paw Paw’s niece in law and one of the few elders in our family that are still alive.

I asked her what the Cantonese word was for menopause and she said it was “baby and then no baby time”. She remembers being with my Paw Paw when she was first going through it. She had no clue what was going on in her body and even went to the hospital to seek care. It was so bad she went to the ER. My grandmother never went to the doctor!

It’s an elders responsibility to tell it like it is but my aunt has always been gentle and kind with words. She told me I looked flushed and plump and it must be motherhood but menopause is a fragile time in a women’s life and I need to get more sleep or I will keep getting sick. Already there auntie! I was told to drink more soup!

Biggest thanks to everyone who came out to see “All That Before Us” with @cju.art.threads at @ruizhealyart . Till next time NYC.

Proud and grateful for this two person show! We couldn’t dream of a better pairing than Consuelo’s and Jennifer’s work united in this exhibition. The NYC show opened on Thursday and our San Antonio one will open on Wednesday. Still processing all the conversations and meaningful works. Stop by and see it in person! @cju.art.threads @jenniferlingdatchuk @ruizhealyart @pattiruizhealy .
