simple. percussive call and response, rolling bass and steady hats. the trinity.

finding the balance between dynamism and simplicity. not overcomplicating it, but keeping it interesting to the ear over extended listening.

we found a video on the family hard drive from a trip to vietnam in 2015. we decided to ruin it.

a spontaneous sunday afternoon at home. a selection of sounds that inspire my brother and me. minimal, hypnotic and slow-building, featuring both new releases and older favourites. deep atmospheres, heavy low end and intentional breaks with room to breathe.

35mm Cinestill 800T

I enjoy shooting all types of film but when travelling it's hard to argue with an 800ISO stock. Helps being able to just belt out low light shots like on frames 2 and 5 from the hip with that extra shutter speed. Despite the hassle of shooting film, I still prefer using it. The result is softer, the colours less realistic; feels less clinical and more humanistic to me, like memories. A better way to capture people, imo.

This year's just hurtling by with a quarter of it near gone already and turmoil all over the world. Makes me reflect on how much growth I've seen in Shanghai over just a few years since moving here. The kind of futuristic scale you see being developed in China comes from stability, cohesion, networking, and long term planning. Dog eat dog isn't gonna take a place that far I reckon. Something we should all keep in mind, especially during harder times.

Oh it's also Kye's birthday today, and his brother Clae's and mine was a week or so ago too. Generously threw a shot of Coby in, even though he decided to not have a birthday this year and just stay 19. Wise choice, tbh.

On Sunday the 8th of March, I cried tears of joy midway during the trips set when he played the song that is playing now. I will never witness a better set than that.

There has always been a community element involved with producing ROSEN-X, from the development of the garments to the creative marketing of collections. The Termina range of ready-made tees and tanks are an ideal example.

Two sets of friends, one located in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, and the other in Brisbane City were each provided a set of the Termina organic tops to photograph in their respective environments. The tops are made in a range of organic material blends from long staple cotton, to lindis wool and mulberry silk; tested for strenuous exercise and comfort in Australia’s intense tropical climate.

This is the first set shot and edited by @kyeprw @cobyhs and @claejw .

Providing an outlet for grassroots creativity, either directly in this set and the set that will follow, or indirectly by engaging with our customers and fans here, has been extremely rewarding and has inspired and influenced many of the designs we feature and sell on the store today. Thanks to everyone involved and we are very proud and excited of this work, and new work to come.

Maleny Misfits in China

Three country boys dropped into Shanghai for two weeks of creative chaos, unforgettable food, and tear-inducing laughter. Between deadlines, shenanigans, and late-night storyboarding, the trip became one of our most cherished memories, an electric two weeks of exploration, expression, and pushing ourselves.

A special thanks to @xeoniq and @therosenrot for the warm welcome, for showing us the best of Shanghai, and for letting us dive into @rosenxrosen with complete creative freedom. We’re proud of what we made together—something different, something only we could pull off.
