I’m beyond excited to announce Carnival, an exhibition highlighting the city and streets of San Francisco as a muse, a show I’m proud to have curated for Adobe Books @adobebookshop

Carnival is a survey of Bay Area artists exploring what it means to live as working artists in the city in this current moment through celebrations and examinations of the urban environment, documentation of daily life, found objects, and street culture. It’s a love-letter to San Francisco, its history, and cultural impact through the lens of its streets, neighborhoods, and city scapes.

The exhibition borrows it’s name from the 1995 Natalie Merchant song of the same name, a single inspired by her own experience’s of living in New York City and the thrills and emotions felt when she was a young artist living in a urban environment for the first time.

It’s an honor to present such a star-studded roster and some surprises too. Please join us at Adobe Books for the opening reception on March 6th from 6-9pm. There will be a live show of some of the Bay’s most exciting acts- Art Deco (@shapesmorepatterns), mandoorhandhookcardoor (@mdhhcd_ ) and Sonia Espiritu @sonia.espiritu. Donations welcome.

See you in a treasured third space I love dearly, Adobe Books! I couldn’t imagine this exhibition any where else.

As the vision for Art + Water continues to take shape at Pier 29, we’re excited to spotlight more of the artists, gallerists, and cultural leaders who will contribute their ideas, practices, and voices to the project over the coming years. 🌟

This week, we’re thrilled to introduce:

Lena Wolff, an artist and democracy activist whose work moves between folk traditions, geometric abstraction, and public projects centered on civic engagement.

Jonathan Carver Moore, the gallerist behind one of San Francisco’s most vital contemporary art spaces, championing emerging and established BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and women artists.

Julie Chang, a multidisciplinary artist whose intricate pattern-based work examines identity, culture, and the systems that shape our everyday lives.

They’ll join a growing group of thinkers and collaborators, including Tanya Zimbardo, Claudia Schmuckli, Ted Russell, Claire Astrow, Rob Saunders, and Nicholas Price, who embody the creative, cross-disciplinary spirit at the heart of Art + Water.

You can explore all of our visiting artists anytime at artpluswater.org — with many more to come.

At Art + Water, visiting artists will share how ideas become real and creative lives are sustained. Through talks, conversations, and studio visits, they’ll open their work to others and help grow a vibrant circle of imagination at Pier 29. ❤️

Adrian Tomine is the celebrated cartoonist and illustrator behind Optic Nerve and Shortcomings, known for his wonderful, deeply human portraits of everyday life.

Ingrid Rojas Contreras is the beloved author of Fruit of the Drunken Tree and The Man Who Could Move Clouds, a National Book Award finalist. Her work explores the inheritance of history and the border between the visible and the invisible.

Verda Alexander is a designer, creative strategist, and co-founder of Studio O+A, the award-winning Bay Area design studio. She is also a member of the Art + Water Board of Directors and brings a deep understanding of how creative spaces shape the way we think, work, and connect.

We are also THRILLED to welcome to Art + Water starting in Spring 2026: Ben Venom, Christo Oropeza, Ellen Oh, Cheryl Derricotte, Kal Spelletich, and Rob Saunders!!
