Antigua, Guatemala 🇬🇹

This chance to put my Spanish into practice and experience my first glimpse of cultural immersion outside the US is something I can’t summarize in an Instagram caption.

Cultural differences, language barriers, and securing the training necessary to make an impact are just a handful of the challenges that can come up when volunteering outside of your community. It’s with a large and considerate team from Guatemala and OSU that make this experience productive, reflective, and sustainable.

Thank you to Elvira, William, Carlos, Doña Mari, Edwin and our other team members for trusting us with your time and support.

Thank you to the OSU friends and mentors who always made me laugh and went along with my antics - looking at you Ronald McDonald statue.

Thank you @buckiserv and @theohiostateuniversity for your generous financial support in making this experience possible for me.

For those interested in supporting safe and affordable housing initiatives, @construcasagt helps coordinate volunteers for local Guatemalan construction teams, supporting families across the country. Donations or even a reshare of their work online is a helpful drop in this bucket I am fortunate to have been a part of. Nos vemos.
