"He'd come to understand that they weren't waging a war against books so much as a war against reading. Reading was a bad habit, but you couldn't keep people from doing it, just as you couldn't keep them from smoking or having sex. All you could do was limit their options, give them the illusion of choice." ~~ Bothayna Al-Essa 📖 📖 I was tagged by the lovely Kristen @rhode_reads to share a #WhatThisWeek book post so here goes: 📚 Current read: The Guardian of Surfaces by Bothayna Al-Essa - translated dystopia about book censorship that is, so far, beautifully written and very timely. My current non fiction read is Uncommon Wealth by Kojo Koram, about the aftermath of the British Empire - not far into it yet but so far it's been a very interesting and accessible read. ☕️ Current drink: Coffee, tea and apricot flavoured water. 🎧 Current music: Have been listening to a lot of Lankum, lately, as well as Joshua Burnside and Sinéad O'Connor. 👟 Current workout: I try to stick to thirty minutes on the treadmill every day, and an after work yoga routine for the days I work from home... not always successful 😂. 📺 Current watch: I don't usually watch a lot of TV but I have been rewatching some of my favourite films recently - watched The Crow last night, and Some Like It Hot a couple of nights ago. 🎲 Currently playing: my niece got Ticket to Ride for C'mas, so we've been playing that a lot since - I've yet to win a game but am very much enjoying the craic 😂. 📖 📖 Have tagged a couple of folks to join in but as always, no pressure at all! 📖 📖 #Bookstagram #IrishBookstagram #BookStack #WomenWhoRead #ReadMore #ReadWomen #WomenInTranslation #WIT #BothaynaAlEssa #TheGuardianOfSurfaces

LAST • NOW • NEXT I've been reading on and off, jumping from a book to another so I decided to do a last now next post which I haven't done in a while - to kind of put things into writing 🤷🏽‍♀️ 💫 NEXT: I'd be lying if I said I knew which book I'm gonna read next but I'm hoping to start The Parisian by Isabella Hammad. The truth is my next pick is going to be random as it always has been 🤷🏽‍♀️ it is what it is! Let's talk about what I know for sure! 💫 NOW: My current read is An Unlasting Home by Mai al-Nakib (published by @saqibooks). I'm 87% in (Thank you kindle) and it's quite a good read! Multigenerational, women, set in different places (as you can imagine considering the title). 💫 LAST: I just finished Your Wish Is My Command/Shubeik Lubeik by Deena Mohamed (published by @grantabooks. This graphic novel is a work of art on so many levels! I'll be reviewing it soon! But I'm not gonna wait for the review post to recommend it!! But stay tuned for the review still! (So many !!! See my excitement😂) Tagging some friends to see what's your LAST NOW NEXT but if you see this post, consider yourself tagged! #lastnownext #readingupdate #currentread #nextread #bookrecommendations #bookreview #bookishupdates #bookaddict #booklover #graphicnovel #Kuwait #Egypt #Palestine #arablit #arabliterature #saqibooks #grantabooks

#cosmicmektoob #asiatheque #book #bookobsessed #bookoftheday #livre #read #contes #litterature #bilingual #france🇫🇷 #iran #farsi #persian #persianlitterature #instabook #bookstagram #bookstagramfrance #inalco #instadaily #livre #tales #tradition #edition #teatime #readingtime📖
