Women's football is really taking shape and the support for lioness and women sport in 2022 really shows this. This is a really exciting time no exception with the women's match today.

“I think we can safely say that Women’s football has finally taken its rightful place on the global stage”. This is a quote from Clare McDonald, Creative Director FIFA / W&B / Sky. We were so honoured to get her call up on the women’s football journey. With 459, 547 fandoms attending the first round of matches at the FIFA World Cup Australia and NZ 2023.

Jennerly Playfair’s love for the game was ensured by the programs run by Favela Street. Combating bullying and building confidence is something football and following passions can do.

Riesmarly Tokaay from Cuaraço, the Dutch Caribbean. She first started playing football in what she thought was a boys only environment. After showing off her skills and sticking to her passion she like so many other girls proved girls are just as good. She quickly developed and gained confidence joining a girls team. Riesmarly is another example of the Favela Street programme which encourages young people to strive for success!

Support creates an environment to grow and develop individual talent. The work of @favelastreet and family and friends is vital to keep raising the prevalence of street football in all areas, especially in places like the Favelas in Rio de Janeiro.

Here is Rebecca, one of our girls featured in the documentary which is available to watch straight from the link in our bio.

Women too often are underrepresented and un-noted in Football, Rocky and the foundation wants to flip the narrative that girls can’t play football. Changing the game and making the impossible possible, the foundation purposefully choose and places itself in unlikely, sometimes unsafe areas to seek out and find those who haven’t been able to play, create and celebrate. These are the values the foundation believes in, to harness the potential of young people.
Over the next few posts we want to showcase these places and girls that are becoming to define them.

Play, spotlights teamwork and an environment to explore their talent and skills.

The Favela street program prioritises 3 phases; “Play, create and celebrate” which provided our framework for the documentary. The three phases collectively will shift mindsets, give the girls confidence and provide them with transferable skills in their daily lives. At box3Media we believe these are valuable and harmonious rules to live by and also embodied in the work we do.
