Clare Sands performs tonight in Carrick-on-Shannon after a stunning album launch in Belfast last weekend. Doors open at 7:30pm. 'They Tried To Bury Us' is a collection of songs that gives voice to the silenced — the endangered curlew, Lí Ban of Lough Neagh, lost words of our native tongue, the Rostrevor oak, those seeking refuge on our shores, and the Palestinian poets whose words embody defiance and inspire generations. Clare brings her audiences on an exhilarating journey full of hope, singing, celebration, and heart. She stands as a testament to the enduring power of music to unite and inspire — a troubadour for the modern age, whose melodies resonate across generations and cultures alike. Tickets are €22 / €20 concession and available via the Events 🔗 in bio, or through the Box Office at 071 965 0828. Video Credit: Adam Bradley.

Print/merch for @claresandsceol This is probably my favourite print I’ve ever done, it was a really collaborative and joyful process to bring it to life and was so fun getting lost in carving the text. I’ve loved Clare’s music for years so it was brilliant to work on something together! I got to see my work on a merch stand for the first time ever on Sunday at and it was honestly a surreal experience. Still can’t quite believe it! The gig itself was one of the greatest I’ve ever had the joy of seeing. The energy in the room was just incredible, it’s a wonderful thing to witness such skilled musicians sharing their art. Clare’s new album is absolutely magical, and even better heard in person. You can buy the merch and prints at any of Clare’s upcoming gigs across Ireland, and you really should go and see her live if you get the chance. Also this print will be up in my solo exhibition at @chillocafe (opening in less than two weeks!) and I’ll be selling them at the private view as well (date tbc)!

“Lí Ban” by @claresandsceol @barrykerr.music @piaras_o_lorcain performed at @belfastempire last weekend 🎻🧜‍♀️ Lí Ban is core to the mythology of Lough Neagh, having endured the flood that was the creation of the Lough and being transformed into a mermaid, beautifully depicted in this stunning new song from @claresandsceol’s new album “They tried to bury us”. Thanks to Clare and team for inviting us and being supportive of the campaign. The system of endless profit, growth and extraction has poisoned Lough Neagh but the spirit of Lí Ban survives in every fisherman, swimmer, resident and person that fights for a future free from those chains. From endless sand extraction and factory farms to the toxic Going for Growth strategy, we need radical change to how our natural resources are managed and who “owns” them. There are many many more of us, people, animals and nature that need a clean planet and water, than need a world to pollute and profit from. Follow Save Lough Neagh and keep speaking up for Lough Neagh!

I had the absolute pleasure to sit down with @claresandsceol recently to discuss her powerful new album They Tried To Bury Us. I am still working on putting the full episode together but thought this song was too good not to share with you asap. It’s called Anam Cara and is the first on the album which you can buy on Bandcamp. So much more to say about Clare’s album and work, but for now I want to say congratulations to Clare and go raibh míle maith agat for coming onto the podcast. We actually did an episode way back in 2019- Episode 46 if you want to check it out. The full episode will be out soon, and if you want to help get it made you can become a patron of Rebel Matters over at patreon.com/rebelmatters.

#irishvoice @claresandsceol #singsingsing #fiddle #resistance PHOTOs Clare Sands Hendryk Proske/Sally MacMonagle/Grit Friedrich
