Han sido días de visitar talleres, tener conversaciones bellísimas, y tener la suerte de conocer cómo varios creadores de nuestro país sostienen a través de sus creaciones modos de vida, nuestras tradiciones, siendo una expresión de nuestro entorno y nuestros sentires. Y eso, es crear en Ecuador. 🇪🇨🤍

Se siente mucha emoción compartir con ustedes este trabajo y sus procesos junto a esta delegación de creadores. 🗓️🗓️Hasta entonces; reserven el sábado 12 de octubre a las 11h00.

Colaborar es un acto mágico además, es una práctica que lo realizamos en nuestra casa con los diferentes creadores que son parte de ella✨

🏡Empezando por nuestra hermosa colaboración con @somos.rest un espacio lleno de cultura gastronómica y espacios maravillosos, donde nos han permitido tener parte de nuestra casita para crecer en conjunto.

🍵La colaboración entre @claudia_anhalzer & @aphlora.wellness con su Balance Mug hecho de cerámica, uniendo lo cotidiano con lo ancestral como tomar una taza de té.

🔮Y la colaboración entre @sideralproducts & @tika.woods con su Holistic Healing Kit, aceites esenciales, cuarzos y madera obtenida con prácticas sustentables.

Todas estas creaciones las pueden encontrar en nuestra casa, es maravilloso ver cómo crecemos en conjunto🖤

🍹La Mama Negra
📍 Quito, Ecuador

Continuing my journey through the lineup of libations featured on the “Fiesta” cocktail list @casagangotena, I was presented with yet another unique and artistic drinking vessel- crafted by @claudia_anhalzer

The creation in front of me was “La Mama Negra” - a celebration of the twice-yearly festival that takes place in the Cotopaxi Province town of Latacunga.

As the legend goes:
Thought to be doomed by the impending eruption of Cotopaxi Volcano in 1742, the locals successfully petitioned the Virgen de la Merced (Virgin of Mercy) - the volcano’s patron - and she spared the town from total devastation.

In thanks of their survival, the town vowed to honour her annually and the colourful and exuberant festival of parades was born.

Leading this procession on horseback, a prominent male Latacunga citizen assumes the much coveted (and by North American standards, inappropriate) role of La Mama Negra - dressing up in a dress and black face - blessing the audience as he makes his way along the parade route.

But why is this celebrated saviour represented as an African deity you may ask?

Interestingly, around the same as this averted natural disaster, the community saw an influx of African slaves- brought in to work the local mines - which prompted great fascination amongst the citizens and a connection was made between their new neighbour’s presence and their good fortune.

Join this culturally eclectic fiesta with a delicious mix of rum, toasted butter, purple sweet potato, cacao mucilage, and sherry-cask whisky. @jossimarlujan

🍹 Fiesta Del Maíz

Feeling Snacky?

Order this awesome bourbon/gin sipper - with a built-in nibble - that pays homage to a very sacred crop 🌽 and the spectacular Otavalo festival that honours this symbol of fertility.

Yet again, the “Feista” cocktail series @casagangotena expertly delivers a cultural snapshot of Ecuador in a perfectly designed mug by @claudia_anhalzer that showcases the prized grain as if on an altar.

The Yamor festival - as it’s known - started in the Northern town of Otavalo half a century ago, taking its roots from ancient indigenous harvest season rituals of giving thanks to Allpa Mama (Mother Earth) and blending with the catholic honouring of the town’s patron virgin - Nina Maria.

The word “Yamor” refers to a traditional and regionally unique fermented “chicha” beverage that is brewed using seven varieties of corn.

This boozy beverage flows freely during the festivities which include processions, music, dancing in the streets, fancy dress, fireworks displays, cock fighting, and mock bull fighting.

Washing those delectable corn nuts down with this incredible blend of bourbon, gin, hominy, redcurrant, and citrusy IPA was Oh-So-Good! @jossimarlujan

Roca Ballena - San Cristóbal.
Ubicada al sur de puerto baquerizo moreno, a 40 minutos por barco podemos encontrarnos con otra estación de limpieza, banco de peces de diferentes tipos, tiburones e incluso una pared vertical que llega a 20 metros o más, el sitio puede ser muy complicado en tiempos de sur y mejor durante los nortes, pero más complicado es no vivirlo.

Es increíble pero cierto, al llegar al sitio se puede notar como un pedazo de roca queda visible en la superficie aparentando ser una ballena 🐋 y con el golpe de las olas los splash 💦.
