When you create a fundraising campaign, you have to answer all kinds of questions, including “Why do you care?” In my attempts to answer this, I list all of the things Urchin Dye can do for our environment, like sink carbon and offer a home to thousands of species. What I often avoid is the personal response to this question. As a mom, outdoor-adventurer, surfer, and ocean-obsessed person – why do I care?

I recently became a mom, and the thought of my daughter growing up in a world where she can’t breathe clean air or swim in a healthy ocean is unbelievable; yet, we find ourselves living in a pivotal time for her future. I know we can’t undo the pollution we’ve already caused, and the world will never be completely healthy again, but I also know that the decisions we make today will either tip the scales into a livable world for my child or a world where she has to live in a bubble surrounded by pollution and environmental decay. I don’t want her to have to visit a tree in a museum.

I also know that negativity breeds negativity. I grew up in the eighties, when environmentalism looked like a lonely polar bear floating away into oblivion and starvation on an icecap. This kind of fear-mongering and doomscrolling will not inspire change or hope, which is why I created Urchin Dye. Empowering yourself with knowledge and creating something beautiful with these creatures is the honorable thing to do. And using your urchin-dyed beanie or scarf as a way to have conversations about a hopeful future.

I hope that within my lifetime the kelp forest ecosystems will recover and the urchin populations will become stable and healthy again, thus making this dye irrelevant. In the meantime, I hope this natural dye experience inspires people to get creative about climate adaptation. And create something beautiful from the chaos.

Thanks for being here,

Margaret Seelie

AI literacy isn’t just a buzzword. It’s the new baseline. 🚀

Yesterday I ran “Hack Your Job Hunt: AI Tools and Strategies” for the Climatebase Fellowship Cohort 10. And it was special - because I know that many participants in the audience have ethical environmental concerns.

And while I fully understand them, I also believe that there is very little we can do to stop AI advancements and its profound impact on the job market.

That’s why I presented these numbers:
- Jobs requiring AI literacy grew 70% in one year in the US (LinkedIn)
- 39% of workers’ core skills will be transformed or become outdated by 2030 (WEF
- 60% of jobs in advanced economies are exposed to AI (IMF)

Here’s what I shared with the group:
🧠 My own mindset: we can’t control AI advancements, but we can control how ready we are, and how we use this powerful tool (AI for Good!).

Especially for white-collar jobs, AI literacy is a must.

So, if you are currently job hunting, here’s where you can start:
✅ Step by step, at your own pace. One project, one skill, one automation at a time. Even a simple chat counts.
✅ Give AI context. Your background, the type of roles you’re looking for, your writing style. The better the input, the better the output.
✅ Build a job hunt hub. One project with your resume, success stories and tone of voice, so every application starts from your story.
✅ Challenge every answer. Don’t settle for the first response, and always verify.
✅ Protect your data. Never share sensitive information.

And the real hack? Use AI as a crutch, not as a leg. You think, design and decide. AI executes and supports. It frees your hours for what only you can do: ideas, strategy, creativity, and real human connections - because in the end, it’s still people who make the hiring decisions today 😅

Want to put this into practice? Comment “AI” and I’ll send you two free resources straight to your inbox:
🛠️ AI Tools for Your Job Search: 10 tools for research, finding opportunities, resumes and staying organized, so you can pick one or two that fit how you work.
📁 Your Job Search Folder: a checklist of the files to give your AI assistant (resume, success stories, tone of voice and more).

We are MAvHU Africa- An Africa-First Climate Data Infrastructure. Africa contributes 3–4% of global emissions, yet carries some of the heaviest climate impacts. It also holds the Congo Basin, ~60% of the world’s best solar resources, and the minerals powering the global transition.

What’s missing is data.

MAvHU Africa builds the climate data and verification infrastructure that turns African land, forests and farms into trusted, bankable evidence, with African data staying under African control.

Measured. Verified. Sovereign.

The tribe is growing. Welcome, @climate.base Cohort 10! 🌍🎉

I remember the exact moment I decided to pivot. It was terrifying and, honestly, incredibly lonely. I spent so many nights wondering if I was the only one who wanted my work to actually mean something.

Last week, as the Climatebase Cohort 10 launched, I was reminded how grateful I am to do the work I do today: supporting others so they do not have to make that leap alone. 🤝

We already kicked things off with an intro session about Ikigai — crayons, A4 paper, and a room full of people digging into the question most of us never stop to ask: what actually makes work feel meaningful to me? Not to LinkedIn. Not to a job title. To me.

Next week, we’ll go from reflection to direction: Crafting Your Career Strategy. We'll map out where fellows want to be in 7 years, get honest about what's already clear versus what still needs exploring, and start prototyping real career scenarios instead of just dreaming about them.

And that's just the warm-up. Over the coming weeks we're covering:

→ Unleashing your transferable skills (yes, you have more than you think)
→ Making LinkedIn actually work for you, not against you
→ Using AI as a genuine job-search ally, not a gimmick
→ Resumes and cover letters that get past the bots AND grab a human's attention
→ Networking without the dread
→ Building your interview persona
→ A real plan for what comes after the Fellowship ends

Nine sessions. One community.

If you're a Climatebase Fellow in Cohort 10 — welcome. Genuinely. I'm so glad you're here.

And if you're watching from the sidelines wondering whether a shift into climate work is possible for you: it is. I've watched it happen, cohort after cohort, and I have zero doubt it'll happen again.

Over the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to serve on the steering committee for Houston Energy & Climate Week, thanks to @climate.base, Society for Low Carbon Technologies, @nataliefabe, Fernando C. Hernandez.

It has been a rewarding experience to see everyone’s hard work come to life and to play a part in bringing this week together!

Today, I’m excited to support the Metro Innovation Tech Tour led by Shahid Ahmed. With the support of SLB and many of my colleagues, we’ll be welcoming nearly 100 participants to our New Energy Process Engineering Center (NEPEC).

Looking forward to an insightful and engaging day of conversations, connections and sharing how we at SLB are driving innovation for a balanced planet.

Today's the day.

In a couple of hours I'm kicking off Session 1 of Climatebase Fellowship Cohort 10 — and we're starting exactly where I think every career conversation should start: Ikigai.

Not the LinkedIn-bio version of Ikigai. The real one.

We'll sit with four simple but genuinely hard questions:
🩵What do you love?
🦸🏽 What are you good at?
🌎 What does the world need?
💸 What can you be paid for?

Here's what I'll tell this group of climate career-changers today:
Ikigai isn't a destination. It's a compass.

Some days it points you toward one word. It emerges one word at a time.
It might start with one single word - a verb that describes how you contribute when you are at your best.

With time, it might evolve into something more concrete: a full sentence, your life matra.

Either way, it's the North Star you keep checking in with — especially when you're rebuilding a career around something that actually matters to you, like the environment.

To everyone in Cohort 10 joining me today — I can't wait to hear what your compass is pointing to.

What is your Ikigai? Please share in the comments!

And if you're new to this idea (or want to go deeper before our session), a few things I keep coming back to:

↳ TEDx: "How to Ikigai" — Tim Tamashiro — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pk-PcJS2QaU

The future of the trades is cleaner, more electric—and a lot gayer. 🏳️‍🌈⚡️🔧

I’m proud to share that I’m officially starting Climatebase Cohort 10!

This opportunity is bigger than me. Everything I learn, every connection I make, and every opportunity I discover will help move Gay in the Trades forward.

For our community, this means:

🌱 Clear information about climate and electrification careers
🤝 New partnerships and opportunities for LGBTQ+ tradespeople
📣 More representation in conversations shaping our industry
🛠️ A stronger voice in the future of skilled trades

LGBTQ+ people already belong in the trades—and we deserve to be seen, heard, and leading where the industry goes next.

What should Gay in the Trades focus on first?

1️⃣ Climate career opportunities
2️⃣ Electrification explained simply
3️⃣ Stories from LGBTQ+ people in the trades
