The Local Clean Energy Alliance is excited to welcome Nicky Aquino from @climatehq.sfsu as our spring and summer intern! Nicky (she/her) is a fourth-year student at San Francisco State University studying Environmental Studies. From South San Francisco, growing up surrounded by air pollution, she became interested in entering the environmental field working at a nonprofit organization and eventually becoming an environmental lawyer. She is passionate about environmental sustainability and hopes to contribute to the fight against climate change by supporting solutions that create a healthier and more equitable planet. In her spare time, Nicky interns at the Environmental Resource Center on campus, surfs, hikes, and travels whenever she can. We are lucky to dive into the summertime with our incredible team of youth leaders. A huge shoutout to TOGETHER Bay Area for an incredible day at the 2026 TOGETHER Conference at Fort Mason. Our SFSU team helped welcome ~500 attendees, assisted sessions, networked with professionals, and learned about climate resilience, conservation, Tribal partnerships, biodiversity, land stewardship, equitable access to nature, and more. This year’s conference theme, “Pace, Scale, and Durability,” brought together practitioners, nonprofits, agencies, Tribal leaders, students, and environmental professionals from across the Bay Area to collaborate on healthier lands and communities. The conference also highlighted long-term regional goals connected to California’s 30x30 initiative and broader conservation efforts across the Bay Area. TOGETHER Bay Area Executive Director Annie Burke shared that SFSU students not only helped the event run smoothly, but also added value and energy to the conference. Their curiosity was boundless, like a sponge. Their professionalism was keenly sharpened. But their playfulness and welcoming spirit in bringing people together were truly priceless. Big thanks to Michaela Nee for making this partnership seamless, to RPT student lead Ella Walls for coordinating our team, and to TOGETHER Bay Area for investing in student learning, leadership, and future aspirations. #TogetherBayArea #SFSU #ClimateResilience #30x30 #EnvironmentalJustice
