We’ve been quiet on here for a while now, we know! But big things, big changes, and big energy sometimes takes time to brew. A bigger Sbcc than ever before is in the making… 🚀🚀🚀

[WORK]

“The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses.”
— Muhammad Ali

I used to think the extraordinary things I wanted to do required extraordinary effort. Increasingly, I think they require something much less exciting: consistency.

Most of what prepares me for the mountains, the races, and the adventures doesn’t happen in the moments anyone remembers. It happens here — one run, one training session, one fairly ordinary day at a time.

There is rarely anything remarkable about the individual session. The remarkable part is what thousands of them, repeated over years, eventually allow you to do.

Nothing extraordinary. Until it adds up to something that is.

A few months into Old School, and thought it was fitting to put together a little collection of some of my favourite directing work so far. ❤️‍🔥

Couldn’t do it without our insanely talented team.

appreciate you, @damianedidit and @clintondorr behind making the vision come to life 🎥 and @fritspearson for the trust 🫶

[CAPE TOWN MARATHON]

When I told someone close to me that I was going to kick off training with Mike again, that person commented “Oh how amazing, you’re training with Magic Mike!” 🕺

A bit of missed cultural reference aside, this person was spot on: Mike has again delivered magic. ✨

At the end of last year, I had to undergo surgery on the cartilage in my hip, which I had somehow managed to shred without the slightest clue as to how I did it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I spent much of the winter moping about while recovering, frustrated by my inability to walk, move, and train - and perhaps even more frustrated by my inability to plan the athletic year ahead. 🩼

I was barred from running until mid-April, so when I came to Mike telling him I had six weeks to train for a marathon - after hip surgery, and while still having to avoid asphalt because of the impact on my hip - the challenge ahead was real. I usually spend 12-14 weeks training for a marathon to ensure sufficient time to load kilometres slowly. 🏃🏻‍♀️

When I got to the starting line for the Cape Town Marathon on May 24, I can’t say I was brimming with the confidence I typically have when I’ve had the lead time I usually like to give myself to train and prepare. I kept telling myself that my goal was just to finish, that it didn’t matter if I had to walk, that I had to listen to my body and ensure I didn’t injure myself. 🙅🏻‍♀️

And then, the magic happened. 🙌🏼

On a warm morning beneath Table Mountain, surrounded by thousands of runners and one of the most energetic crowds I’ve experienced at a marathon, I ran one of my fastest half marathons. I ran my fastest 30k. And despite fading over the final 12 kilometres in the heat (I am definitely not a hot weather athlete), I still ran my third-fastest marathon. 💪🏼

Trust is everything to me, and having the right people in my corner who I can lean on is one of the things I value most. I’m forever grateful to have crossed paths with Mike. While he prefers gyms and mountains to dance floors, the moniker “Magic Mike” definitely holds some literal truth in the name. 🫶🏼

Cape Town Marathon was an absolute dream. More on that soon. 🇿🇦

[CAPE TOWN]

I’ve now visited 67 countries across all seven continents. I’ve lived in 10 countries, called countless cities “home”, and spent much of my adult life moving from one corner of the world to another.

Most places leave me with wonderful memories.

A much smaller number leave me with something harder to explain - a pull, a feeling of familiarity or resonance. Lahore, Istanbul, New York, Beirut…

And Cape Town is one of those places.

Perhaps it’s the blending of cultures and peoples from diverse backgrounds - a mirror held up to my own life. Perhaps it’s the combination of sea and mountains that draws me. Perhaps it’s that this is a country that has endured more than many and somehow emerged with an extraordinary warmth, resilience, and sense of possibility.

Or perhaps it’s something else entirely. I can’t quite put a finger on it.

Whatever the reason, this city feels familiar, warm, and welcoming.

And running the Cape Town Marathon only deepened that feeling.

I’ve been fortunate to run marathons all over the world. They are all unique in their own way, but some races leave a stronger impression than others. Cape Town was one of them, and is now my favourite marathon that I’ve run to date.

The route winds beneath mountains, along the coastline, and through neighbourhoods filled with music, encouragement, and joy. It is undoubtedly one of the most visually spectacular marathons I have ever run.

But what stayed with me most wasn’t the scenery. It was the people.

Cape Town felt personal. It felt authentic.

It felt like a city that had opened its arms and invited the world to come run through its streets. A city proud to show itself off. Proud to welcome not just the stellar elite runner lineup that participated - among them Eliud Kipchoge, who I greatly admire - but also us “normal” runners there to prove something to ourselves.

And for that, I’m incredibly grateful.

Thank you, to the city with a beautiful soul. 🇿🇦

A magical sunset session in Cape Town with Dominique & Clinton ✨

Couple sessions like this are about slowing down –
being present, moving naturally,
and creating something that feels honest and timeless.

Had fun working with the span and Push Mongo on this one with Cape Union Mart.

We tried some “rigs”

Rig one is the “you are a frog underwater” shot
Rig two is the “curios fly stuck on the door peep hole” shot
Rig three is the “if life was a game” shot (sorry don’t have any BTS of this one)

Anyhow, the other fun part is most of not all the frames in this piece was filmed on my 15mm Canon FD lens🥹🍳
