Clinton Showboat summer was a movie.

Forever grateful for the friendships I’ve made this summer. You guys are all so incredible and important to me, I can’t wait to see what you all do!! I love you all so dearly 🫶 (I’m notoriously bad at remembering to take pictures)

Ask three theater people what summer stock is, and you may get three different answers.

But here's the general idea: every summer, artists from across the country move to small towns and vacation spots across the Midwest to work (and live) together for several months, staging show after show in rep.

That "summer camp vibe" makes for high-quality theater in unforgettable places, from outdoor amphitheaters to retrofitted barns and riverboats.

Swipe for a (non-exhaustive) sampler of summer stock stages across the region.

Who are we missing? Tag them in the comments! An actress in a red and yellow period dress performs on an outdoor stage surrounded by audience members in amphitheater seating, with two costumed performers seated among the crowd. Text reads: Summer Stock Theatre. When it comes to great ways to spend a Midwest evening, these stages steal the show.
