Here we are on Ngarigo Country in Dalgety, tucked up cosy in Em’s bro and bro-in-law’s gorgeous cabin, nestled among the most wondrous bush and birdlife on the mighty Snowy River. Just us, Em’s new puppy Beau, and a notebook full of theories.

We came to write, to wander, to bird watch and to chase an idea. There’s real magic in making work in a small town with a big history.

We finished the trip in the nation’s capital, on the lands of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples, chasing a certain ex-PM’s briefcase that kept eluding us. It’s almost like he doesn’t want us to see what’s inside.

All in all, theatre nerd heaven. This is the way we love to work at the very start of an idea, where something bizarre and outrageous slowly takes form and quietly lets us know it might just be worth talking about. Letting the environment speak to us. The “what if we...” bit.

This part of the process is what feeds the artistic soul.

So, our darling thespians, watch this space. The truth is out there. (Allegedly.)

Two joyful days of pure ‘play’ with friends old and new, facilitated by the generous spirits that make up @clockfiretheatre. “Into the Mythic” was a two day intensive workshop exploring story and ritual in theatre. Ensemble and choral work is my absolute favourite .. haven’t had this much fun since the two year ‘holiday from reality’ that was drama school. Recently I was so fortunate to have had my music played alongside an excerpt from our theater show 'RUINS' on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). As part of the excerpt, we included a musically stripped down version containing only the flute cues, which ushers a haunting start to the show.

Co-artistic director Emily Ayoub was interviewed by Kabuku Public Relations for this segment - with Tony Poli as Joe, Randa Sayed as Baal, and Jessica Scott playing the flute.

So proud to be one of the lucky composers who adds to Clockfire Theatre Company's story telling!

✨ New theatre review: a play that speaks across time and place ✨

Ruins at the Reginal Theatre is a hauntingly beautiful love letter to Lebanon.

Co-created by Emily Ayoub and Madeline Baghurst from Clockfire Theatre, this powerful ensemble piece moves between past and present, weaving family stories, memories of war, and the resilience of diaspora.

From Beirut’s wild traffic to the ruins of Baalbek, the production layers movement, music and imagery to capture both joy and loss. With heartfelt performances and striking design, Ruins is theatre that lingers long after the curtain falls.

In today’s world of conflict and displacement, Ruins reminds us how belonging and memory continue to shape our lives. The story moves quickly, shifting between present day, Lebanon’s civil war and ghostly visions, sometimes so fast it leaves you catching your breath. Props, music and movement transform the stage into Beirut’s chaotic streets and intimate memories. It’s a powerful, multilayered work that speaks to identity, migration and connection to home — and one well worth seeing.
