I need your help peeps!

I’m struggling to pick my favourite portrait from this 5 minute shoot with the uber talented Antony Szmierek before his epic show at the O2 Academy Bournemouth on Friday 16/10/26

In the editing process I select a bunch that I think are all worthy portraits to process. I would then usually ask the artist/management to select their favs for final resize and delivery.
On this occasion in a world governed by social media, fans can also have an input in the creative process. I’ve never done this before and I’m sure Antony hasn’t either but we’d both love to hear your selection and thoughts.

Thank you.

The final portrait from my book DJs by Lopez released in 2003 is Liverpool based tech house DJ/Producer - Yousef
Playing out globally since the 90’s including residencies in Ibiza Yousef went on to become a prominent producer, event organiser and label owner at Circus.
He hosted the 500th edition of Pete Tongs Essential Mix and has released 4 successful albums and released tracks for the likes of Carl Cox, Green Velvet, Sven Vath and Four Tet.

Yousef wrote in my book…The Music and djing mean everything to me. The music I love because of the way it makes me feel. Because music inspires; it has a personal relationship with the listener and above all you can always turn to music when you need it and it will never let you down; only lift your spirit and enhance your mood in whatever direction. I love djing because you can control the mood direction for other people.
I’ve always been interested in the technical side of djing and always try to push the technical skill level as far as I can take it. I love the idea of having one, two, three or even four tracks rolling to create the vibe, in effect making your own tracks out of other people’s. The vibe is what the dancefloor is hearing, what is coming out of the speakers.
It’s about the groove, the tension, the funk and above all the order you put the music in. 11 years into it I feel it more now than I ever have, for me music is a way of life.

The penultimate portrait from my book DJs by Lopez is the AV master DJ Yoda.

After studying American Literature at Warwick University Duncan got his first gig as a dj at Mojo in Warwick. He then started releasing underground mix tapes and through their popularity Antidote Records asked him to create a mix tape for release - How to cut & paste Vol 1
He went on to win the DMC Scratch DJ of the year in 2001 and nominated for best Hip Hop DJ at the UK Hip Hop Awards. He toured with Goldie and the Scratch Perverts and has played out all over the world.
His debut album ‘The Amazing Adventures of DJ Yoda was released in 2006 was a huge hit. A regular guest on BBC Radio 1 and nominated for a Sony Radio Academy Award in 2009.
Dr Dre’s first choice to to guest mix his Beats 1 show for Apple Music and in 2016 released a ‘Stranger Things’ Mix which had more than quarter of a million plays on Spotify.

He wrote in my book…For me, the important thing is not to take the music too seriously. There are enough nerdy, over-technical DJ’s out there already and music is only entertainment after all!. So that’s why I like blending Rick Astley with Wu-Tang Clan...

Next up from my book DJs by Lopez needs no introduction. His musical career and legacy is historic. The brilliant U.S DJ, producer & remixer - Todd Terry.

Responsible for taking the original Chicago sound into the 90’s house scene with his blend of house and hip hop.
Countless remixes and single/album releases TT is still a firm fixture on the festival circuit and clubs across the world and one of the hardest working DJ’s out there.
This is one of my favourite portraits from the book which was later reworked for the album Todd Terry Trilogy - Past, present & future back in 2005

Todd wrote in my book…Evolution is big in my life. I try to reinvent myself with every release.

The next portrait from my book DJs by Lopez is the amazing DJ Producer, the hilarious Tim Deluxe.
Growing up in North London Tim got his first break working at Time is Right Records at the tender age of 14 and stepped in to cover CJ Mackintosh at Ministry of Sound before he turned 18.
In 94, along with Omar Amidora and Andy Lysandrou the trio launched Ice Cream Records. In 97 they had a top twenty hit in the singles charts with RipGroove under the name Double 99.
He then went onto produce and in 2002 released ‘It just won’t do’ released by Emerson’s Underwater Records which was a big hit in the clubs.
I met Tim in 2002 at Soho Recording Studios where he had his studio for a few years. Such an intelligent guy who knew the business inside out. Such a funny guy too.

Tim wrote in my book…Music is a wonderful thing. To be able to DJ to people and see them having a good time is amazing. Whether it’s a simple smile while they’re dancing or going f*kin mental, jumping up and down waving their hands in the air screaming and shouting. It’s all about having a good time, provoking reactions and playing with emotions, making the dancefloor move. Music is a wonderful thing

One of the most exciting bands on the circuit today. If you haven’t heard of the Molotovs you will soon. They supported the brilliant James last night at the O2 Academy Bournemouth and totally blew me away. Amazing songs, energy and stage presence! Love this band 👊🏼💥

The next portrait from my book DJs by Lopez is regarded as one of the biggest DJs in the world, Dutch DJ Producer Tiesto.
Voted the greatest DJ of all time by Mix Magazine in 2010/2011 and best DJ of the last 20 years by readers of DJ Magazine in 2013.
He founded Black Hole Recordings in 1997 with Arny Bink.
He’s collaborated with the likes of Ferry Corsten and in 2001 released his first album ‘In my memory’ which had several major hit singles.
In 2004 he became the first DJ to perform live at the Summer Olympic Games ceremony in Athens.
He went onto win a Grammy at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards for his remix of John Legends ‘All of Me’
The man is unstoppable.

He wrote in my book…DJing for me is the purest form of non-verbal communication. It gives me so much satisfaction. There is nothing better than sharing music with other people and making everybody happy by playing records.
