POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Join Sam Marshall at Atelier Clos Mirabel 6 - 13 March 2027 for a week of experimentation with linocut and drypoint, creating beautiful artworks inspired by your surroundings. This retreat is designed to gently guide you from sketchbook to print, building confidence in your drawing before translating your work into both drypoint and linocut. Whether you’re returning to drawing after a break or looking to deepen an existing practice, the emphasis is on exploration, play, and developing your own visual language.

Set in private parkland, amidst the gentle hills of Jurançon, overlooking vineyards and the entire chain of the Pyrénées Atlantiques, the C18th Manor is at the heart of the estate.
Residential - all inclusive retreat
Jurançon, Pau, SW France

Some of my best designs have come from time spent traveling. My mind opens. My energy increases. Being able to disconnect and shake free from my usual routine is a luxury that I do not take for granted. I’d like to create the space for others to do this as well.

This August, I’m inviting a small group to join me for a week at Clos Mirabel, a stunning retreat in Southwest France where inspiration is everywhere—from the rolling vineyards to the breathtaking Pyrenees.

Together, we’ll explore the art of quilt design, with a special focus on the quarter-circle seam—a versatile and dynamic element that opens up endless creative possibilities. Through guided design exercises, you’ll discover how to develop quilt patterns that feel uniquely you, moving beyond traditional templates to create something truly authentic. And don’t worry if you’re new to designing or quilt-making—this retreat is all about learning. I’ll help you build the technical skills needed to bring your vision to life, from refining your design to constructing a finished quilt top.

And when we’re not stitching, we’ll be savoring incredible garden-to-table meals, unwinding in the peaceful countryside, and soaking in the beauty of the Pyrenees. If you’re ready to step away from the everyday and into a week of creativity, connection, and inspiration, I’d love for you to join me!

Book your room and board directly with the wonderful team at @closmirabel, and follow the link on this post to reserve your workshop spot with me.

Lots of reels went big this year, as Instagram played catch up with TilTok, so #topnine2024 is a bit limiting by its formatting.

An epic year with personal travels, GCA judging, and teaching workshops that took me to a dozen states, Mexico six times, France twice, and all over California. Thank you to all my students and supporters, friends and family. All the best to you in the New Year.
