POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Most of Sandways Campers was filmed in a single day.

We recorded interviews on the rocks below the campsite, gathered quiet observational footage and listened to people whose lives had been shaped by Sandway.

For our founder and creative director, Drew Graves, the place was already part of his family history. Returning with a camera meant looking at a familiar landscape differently, both as a filmmaker and as someone trying to understand the loss of a place that had formed part of his childhood.

The archive footage extended the film far beyond that single day. It placed the people we interviewed alongside earlier generations and showed how much history had accumulated around a group of modest seasonal chalets.

The production itself was simple. The subject was not. With every conversation, the scale of what the community was losing became clearer.

Sandway remains with the people who knew it.

Sandway was part of my life long before it became a documentary.

My family had been part of the campsite for generations. I grew up there, surrounded by families who returned year after year and passed their chalets down through generations.

When the future of Sandway came under threat, I knew I wanted to film it. Not because I thought I could save it on my own, but because the people and memories connected to that place deserved to be recorded.

Filming it was difficult. I was interviewing people I knew about a community that had shaped my own childhood. At times I had to step out from behind the camera and become part of the story myself.

I am genuinely sad about the loss of the chalets and the community around them. They were simple places, but they held generations of friendships, family memories and shared history.

That is why I made the documentary. When a place disappears, telling its story becomes even more important.

Sandways Campers was one of those documentaries that held some real weight to it.

12 episodes. One day. 300 square feet. What could go wrong?

The Myth Wheel was an idea Drew was dead set on making happen. Fostering South West gave us the freedom to pitch it, and suddenly we were producing 12 episodes in one day alongside a podcast shoot, two setups and a studio barely big enough to move in.

We made it work. Somehow.

Now we’re in a studio more than three times the size which feels like nothing short of luxury.

Big idea? Small idea? Slightly ridiculous idea? We want to hear it.

The film was only one piece of the puzzle.

For ‘Do You Remember When?’, we captured photography alongside the films, creating a library of imagery that could live across the wider campaign from social content to banners and printed materials.

We also developed 12 bespoke campaign artworks with custom graphic borders, giving everything a consistent look and feel.

The campaign became Fostering South West’s most successful recruitment campaign to date, generating its highest recorded enquiry response figures.

It’s not just about making something. It’s about making something matter.

“Do You Remember When?” started with an idea inspired by the power of memory, which eventually became a full campaign for @Fostering South West.

Two shoot days, including 25 scenes captured in a single day, multiple locations and a whole lot of setup.

It was chaotic. It was busy. Somehow, it all came together.

The best projects often start with a simple idea and end somewhere you never expected.

Have a spark of an idea? Bring it to us.

Many heads. Many hands.

We’re incredibly excited to announce that our first podcast episode is now live!

Kieran and Drew sit down in our new Plymouth podcast studio to chat about the many projects we’ve worked on over the past few years.

We’ll be catching up every couple of months to discuss our latest projects and share more of what goes on behind the scenes.

This episode is also a bit of a showcase for what we can now produce in our new studio, from custom set design and multi-camera filming through to lighting, sound and post-production.

We’re looking forward to inviting guests from our network into the studio and featuring the four regular freelancers who make up some of the many hands behind The Hundred Hands.

If your organisation is considering creating its own podcast or videocast, send us a message.

Huge thanks to everyone at @greenroomswales for making it such an incredible day we had a lot of fun!

We believe music is about expression, conveying messages that mean something and appreciation for the art and other artists.

Whether you’re in the pit, headbanging, or taking it all in your own way, everyone belongs.
We’re grateful to be part of this community. We’ll see you again at another festival later this month.
