A year ago today I made the life changing decision to go to @humanecharlotte and find a fur-ever friend. Mara was a scared, nervous, ASPCA rescue with a file folder that was thicker than her confidence and a life history that had more than just outside scars that follow her forever.

It took 6 days from adopting her for her to finally eat or drink with me in the room, 2 weeks to have her make comfortable touch with me, over 2 months for her to trust me to take her on a walk, and over 6 months before she finally could open up enough for @cltdogwizard to be able to work with her.

Mara has been here as a safety net during an abusive relationship, trips to Rhode Island, finding the love of my life, opening a business, and ending up in a wheelchair. My beautiful, strong, loving Mara has consistently loved me, and shown me what strength can look like in dog form. From braving sedated nail trims, to recovering from a tail infection and amputation, to being the perfect travel buddy - I have found the perfect puzzle piece that was missing from my day today.

Mara is now an in-training service dog, who is still a little shakey in her confidence but growing every day.

Mara would not be where she is, the happy, smiley, bouncy girl without @alyssa.gentilee and @danielleleigh848 helping me make the choice to adopt her, @rollinwithkiki for her incredible training, @kaitlin.whiteley.33 for getting every grainy photo of her and listening to me have nervous parent energy about her all the time, @riverrunah (and @morganmag21 ) for her continued care and vet support, and @beth0ftime for being her other mom and my partner in crime.

Happy gotcha day Mara and thank you to everyone who helped her grow. 💖
