POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Today is the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. T42 and Centre 42 are heeding Ashtar Theatre’s (@ashtartheatre ) call for theatre artists worldwide to present The Gaza Monologues today, to raise our voices to amplify those that have been silenced.

Thank you to the 30 readers—a mix of writers, artists, creatives, and actors— who lent their voices to these monologues. These monologues are harrowing, and also full of strength, hope, and defiance. We are presenting them in a 90 minute podcast. Please listen, and share.

These monologues were first written and performed in 2010 by Gazan teenagers under Ashtar’s mentorship, relaying their horror, hope, and resilience in the face of Israeli bombardment of Gaza in the preceding years.

In making these monologues free to perform, Ashtar Theatre hopes to draw our attention and support towards a psycho social intervention in the West Bank, Palestine, that uses theatre and psychology to express and mitigate the traumatic impact of the current war on Gaza.

You’ll find a link to that giving page in our bio. T42 is pledging our Patreon earnings to this project and other aid funds against totalitarian violence.

Happy Halloween! These are zines created by @clueyc 😀 They examine mythical beings of Southeast Asia. From the famous Pontianak, the vengeful “Nu Gui” to the seductive Sundal Bolong (literally means prostitute with a hole in her). These zines gives us some information on the history behind these ghosts. The most common thread that binds all these stories is that they were women and were once wronged so they come back as ghosts to exact their revenge. Ghosts (in Southeast Asia, atleast) is a great reflection of the culture and the deep-rooted fascination with women and our bodies - even after death. We are creatures that you should be worried of, and we are vengeful, angry witches. These stories also mirrors the misogynistic and patriarchal ways in which society tries to contain women: don't do this or that if you do not wish to die alone, and angry. But perhaps we can reappropriate these stories and think that: yes, women are dangerous beings to be reckoned with! ⠀
.⠀
Anw, I personally think no ghosts stories can rival those from Southeast Asia. Western ghost movies (e.g. The Exorcist) have never scared me like the ones created here in Southeast Asia (helloooo! Anyone rmb "Shuttter"?? I've not watched a horror movie after that, lol. Hmmm, my shoulder aches - is there a ghost riding my shoulder??).⠀

In the lead-up to QZF 2018, we’re introducing all the zinesters, workshoppers and musicians you’ll be meeting at the zinefest!
🌈🌈🌈
Featuring: bever.gif (Booth J1)
Names of boother(s): Beverley and Chloe
🌈🌈🌈
What kind of zines do you make?: Photo-zines, illustrations and internet art.
🌈🌈🌈
What was the first zine you made?: A zine about Blogspot/Myspace days.
🌈🌈🌈
Why do you make zines?: My art practice is largely inspired by the non-conformist views and the independent energy of punk culture. The style of 70s rock n roll zines remains a graphical inspiration as well, I enjoy having a DIY approach to the things that I make. I find that having an independent and original voice is important, especially since the creative scene here is very small.
🌈🌈🌈
What are you looking forward to at QZF?: To meet other queer zine makers who share the same DIY spirit. Having seen similar events in other parts of the world, I am excited that it is happening here in Singapore and thankful for the team that makes it possible!
