What an extraordinary evening.

There is so much to reflect on from this Friday’s NOSTOS vernissage and the debut screening of Reminders of You.
NOSTOS began with the idea that homecoming is not always about returning to a place, but about finding our way to one another. That home can be something we create together, through the relationships we nurture, the memories we share, and the care we extend to those around us. Community at its core.
On Friday evening, that sentiment was palpable in every corner of the gallery.
People of all ages gathered to celebrate art, film, and the many ways we experience belonging and connection through creativity. Old friends reunited, new friendships began, families explored the exhibition together, artists networked in finding likeminded individuals, and beautiful conversations carried on long into the evening. There was such a strong sense of familiarity and welcome, even among those meeting for the very first time. The space was alive with the very spirit of NOSTOS.
The debut of Reminders of You, a beautiful animated short film by Abby Cooper, Zineb Nour, and Esther Law, made the evening all the more meaningful. A love letter to Ottawa, the film reminds us of the little traces of others that surround us every day, and the ways we are connected through places, memories, and moments we might otherwise overlook. What a joy to share this remarkable work with a room full of people who, in gathering together, were bringing its message to life.

Our deepest gratitude goes to the wonderful artists of NOSTOS and Reminders of You for sharing their extraordinary pieces, and to everyone who helped make this celebration of art and community possible. Thank you to the many people who filled the gallery with such genuine enthusiasm, generosity, and care.
For an evening dedicated to homecoming, how beautiful it was to see so many people find a little bit of home in one another.
Thank you for making this space feel like home✨

Not so Still Life by Hilary Romaniuk @clutter_crafts sold!

Not So Still Life is one of those pieces.
Packed with extraordinary technique, this work reveals layer upon layer the longer you spend with it. Hidden in plain sight is an intrigue that challenges the traditions of the still life, asking every passerby to reconsider what we elevate, what we overlook, and what we deem worthy of admiration. It transforms familiar objects into symbols of strength, agency, and empowerment, subtly breaking convention while speaking entirely for itself.
It has been an absolute honour to house Not So Still Life through multiple exhibitions at The Niche. Watching visitors pause, look again, and uncover something new each time was a reminder of the power art has to shift perspective.
While we’ll miss seeing it on our walls, we’re thrilled that this remarkable piece has found its new home, where it will continue to spark curiosity and conversation for years to come. Congratulations to its new collectors and thank you Hilary always for trusting us to be part of its journey.
