My heart is so full after the first Down in the Drafts writing retreat 💖 I can’t express how happy I am this community brought us together.

So many funny stories coming out of this weekend 😂 Listening to that eccentric old lady almost get scammed on the train, wandering around a shopping center looking for the Marshall’s, irritating a horny ghost, happening upon the tiniest cemetery making Caitlyn’s eyes turn into literal hearts, recreating a scene to see if the position would work, our Twilight movie marathon, finding a strangely good Thai place in the middle of nowhere, staying up way too late to scream about Theo James, even the chaotic race to the train home.

Everything about this weekend was so amazing & the next one will be even better!

If you could travel anywhere in the world for the sole purpose of writing a book inspired by that place, where would you go? 📚🗺️🖊️

I asked a few writing friends and these were their responses! I would travel to Scotland (and @frogwood_studio said she’d join me) and dream up a folklore fantasy full of faeries and creatures of old.

Today’s post is a little different than my usual ones. It’s oddly specific and the idea for it came to me while I was writing a page in my zilbadone journal last night. As I mention on the second slide, this kind of journal has no bounds. It’s a free-form style of journal and you can collect or write down a variety of things; quotes, lists, recipes, sketches, random thoughts. It originates from the 14th-century Venetian merchants who used messy notebooks for travel notes, business records, and daily observations. The word itself translates from Italian as “hodgepodge” or “heap of things.” I wrote down a list of examples to wake me from a coma. One of the many random things in that journal itself haha, so I decided to share what would wake me up, and who in my writer friend group I’d call to 1) help me regain memory of who I am and 2) who could run my book release if I’m still not fully conscious. Enjoy this. :)
