Sunday Spotlight Powered by @luxstonegroupny Center Moriches ace Danny Gilroy performed his best on the big stage of the Long Island Championship - striking out 12 in a CG shutout and driving in 2 runs at the dish. His coach, Paul Gibson, spoke highly of the New Haven-commit. “Danny was a very hard worker in the weight room this offseason. The other thing with him is he’s real smart with how he approaches things. He’a very good at identifying where his weaknesses are. He does that better than most. Most kids shy away from where they struggle, I think he’s just the opposite. The last two years when he was on the mound, we knew we would always be in the game. It helped the offense to get in the right direction. We didn’t need to produce a ton offensively when he pitched.” When asked if he was impressed how he performed his best in the biggest moment, he said, “In the Long Island Championship, he’s the type of kid I expect to play a great game in a big spot. You pull for that kind of kid. I knew there wouldn’t be a ton of nerves because he’s a bulldog.” His numbers were tremendous this season – going 8-2 with a 1.08 ERA over 59 innings. He notched a 0.70 WHIP, struck out 79 batters and walked just 7 while holding the opposition to a .172 AVG. At the dish, he was impressive as well. He batted .387 with a .451 OBP, 1.082 OPS, 4 HRs and 34 RBIs. He was named All-County and Class B Playoff MVP for his accomplishments. He spoke to Axcess Baseball and the full story is coming ⚾️

Yesterday our season came to an end with a tough 5-2 loss in the state semifinals. As much as it hurt to fall short I woke up today with overwhelming pride in all that these young men have accomplished. As a team we were league champions and Long Island champs. Individually there were huge accomplishments and awards from so many of our guys. But beyond that, what makes me proud is who these guys are as people and the way that they cared and battled for each other. To this year’s senior class, I love you guys and am so thankful to have had the opportunity to coach each of you. Your commitment to one another and to the overall goal was really special. The way you pull for each other and value the relationships you have with one another is exactly what cm ball family is all about. You made your mark and left the program in a better way than when you got here. To the underclassman— we will be back! Also want to give a shoutout to the best coaching staff out there! Thank you guys for everything! To Mr Thode and all of the administration we appreciate all of the support you give us throughout the year. And most of all thank you to all of the families, community members, friends, and business owners that support us year after year. That support is part of what makes our program what it is.

It’s hard to put into words what this game has meant. From the first time I picked up a glove to today, baseball has been more than just a sport, it’s been a constant, a teacher, and a huge part of who I am. Every field, every teammate, every moment is etched in my memory. From little league to travel ball to school ball, baseball has always been what I enjoyed doing. I want to thank @cmbaseball19 for helping me to be the man I am. I will forever miss baseball and even more than that I will miss my teammates. Thank you baseball for everything.
