Carnegie Mellon Qatar announces its first Alumni Association Board, uniting leaders from 15 years of cohorts across all four academic degree programs. Led by alumni from business, computer science, biological sciences, and information systems, the board will champion mentorship and connection for our growing network of 1,500 Tartans.

When CMU-Q students turn classroom assignments into published research, they redefine what undergrads can achieve. Computer Science graduate Abrar Abir and Information Systems student Marnilla Metwaly co-authored a new study on gas-sensor performance in Results in Chemistry, guided by Nimer Murshid, associate teaching professor of chemistry.

Our enrollment and our rankings have hit an all-time high! More than 490 students from 62 nations are calling Carnegie Mellon Qatar home for the 2026–2027 academic year. This year we welcome our largest incoming class of 145 first-year students, and our program rankings continue to climb.

As Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Aamal Company, his leadership continues to drive economic innovation in the region.

A breakthrough led by CMU-Q Biological Sciences Professor Ihab Younis has revealed a novel RNA molecule, PINC, that functions as a tumor suppressor in breast cancer cells.

Published in iScience, the multi-year study highlights Carnegie Mellon’s commitment to impactful research and undergraduate mentorship. Several alumni co-authored the paper based on research they began as undergraduates, exemplifying how CMU-Q prepares the next generation of scientists to solve critical global health challenges.

Mohammed Abed Shirzai, a Business Administration @cmuqalumni from the Class of 2012, recently returned to CMU-Q to share his wisdom with current @businesscmuq students. His visit was part of the course Managing Across Cultures and is taught by Professor Ki-Won Haan, assistant teaching professor of organizational behavior. Shirzai works at Qatar Investment Authority and has over 10 years experience in communications, public relations and managing multicultural teams. #CMUQ
