There’s been so much talk about Dyslexia lately and I don’t know for certain if I can say that I have that superpower, but reading words on a page has always haunted me. I felt like I was trying to chase a rhythm that everyone else could hear but I couldn’t. Over the last few years. I’ve learned so much about how brains with Dyslexia work. I’ve become more mindful of my own brain and started noticing patterns that make me wonder.
Many of my designs start in black-and-white. The lines and shapes come first and color lives in my head as a later step. It’s how my brain likes to untangle ideas-strip everything down then slowly turn the color on in my mind before it ever touches the page.
No matter what the process, I love hearing how creativity is born. It’s these differences that make us human and unique and powerful. What’s your process?

Finally sharing this magical night in January. I celebrated another trip around the sun and my wish for the night was simple: two long tables filled with everyone who means the most to me. 🌿

I used my emerald Spindle and Wayfarer patterns for the table linens, layered with smilax vines from @petaldriven, deep purple ranunculus from @fiftyflowers, and handmade candles from @caicaihandmade—each one a little work of art. I did the decorating which was heaven for me 🤓 … except for climbing a *very* tall ladder to hang the vines and candles from the beams.✨

@betsycholletcatering created the most incredible winter menu, and the whole night felt like dining in an indoor garden lit from within. A 🪩 followed dinner and it was just a perfect night. A reminder that a little pattern, some flowers, and a few brave moments on a ladder can truly transform a space. 💚

So often I am asked if people use candles in my cakes because it seems sacrilegious to mess up the designs (people have a hard time even cutting into them!). I always respond by saying, I can always make another 😉 but I love the solution that @ccpotter4 came up with for her dear friend @jennabhager and her husband @cnickdesigns birthdays—just hand them a big ole’ lit taper💥 Scroll to see closeups of the cakes 🎂🎂

What’s the best part of our job? Seeing old and new customers, sharing ideas, talking about books (and gossiping, of course), and having the opportunity to engage with you every single day. We have had lots of wonderful visitors lately and we bet that many of these pictures include some familiar faces. They include smart college students, a preeminent event planner, interior designers, a girl going off to summer camp (With books! No phone!), a former bookstore owner, a guest from the Netherlands, an accomplished cyclist, a beverage entrepreneur, the head of the library, and many more. Be sure to say hello to those who you know and come see us soon. We’d love to get your picture for Books Inside the Bookstore! We will be open today, 10:30am-5pm.

I’ve officially adopted myself into the @pipandrooneedleworks family. I’m not sure if they know it yet though. 🥰 When a friend from home put me in touch w Tarra, she was so gracious and stayed on the phone w me forever. At market, Tarra and her whole family and team swept me right up.

I love that Tarra used our local, Locust Valley longboard designer, @cnickdesigns 🛹 as inspiration for these canvases. When you all come to see the shop I’ll have these canvases and some real boards for you to check out too!

Can’t wait to introduce you all to the store and our awesome town! Stay tuned for more @locustvalleyliving gems! Like @thekarmicgrind ☕️
