Speed and strength are not separate qualities. They are two sides of the same thing. Strength is the ability to produce force. Speed is the ability to produce that force fast. Sport does not give you time to grind through a rep. It asks you to cut, jump, sprint, and change direction in fractions of a second. An athlete who is strong but slow cannot express that strength when it matters. An athlete who is fast but weak has no force behind the movement. Train both and you get an athlete who is powerful in every direction the game demands. That is why we train speed and strength together at T3. Strong positions, fast feet, and force that shows up on the field, the court, and the track. Old School Gains ________ Sometimes if you have a particular deficiency, like I do with strength, you need to lock in on that one quality for a period. I still sprint 1-2 times per week and jump occasionally, but im doing just enough to maintain those qualities. I don’t expect growth there right now. Getting STRONG and BIG is the main focus. ________ Dont limit yourself by trying to improve too many things at once. It works for beginners but after a while its best to dial in on one particular aspect of training, especially one you lag in.

Ive noticed a lot of times athletes aren’t training with the intent or weight they should be. This often isnt due to them being lazy, they simply dont know what it feels like to train hard. In my opinion a big piece of coaching is pushing athletes to maximize their gains by showing them what intensity actually means. Not just forcing them to do more weight, but to learn what a hard set actually feels like and when to apply these intense sets.

Coach @coach.seant3 teaching the DB RDL to one of our middle school athletes ⚡️ There is no such thing as a good, bad, or dangerous exercise. However, when the exercise is performed or how it is performed can be good or bad. For example, performing the RDL with a lot of knee flexion, rounded spine, and holding the DBs further away from our body would make the exercise dangerous to our body and joints. IT’S NATIONAL COACHES DAY Most people think coaching is just running drills (it’s not). It’s knowing which kid needs to be pushed and which kid needs to be left alone today. It’s noticing someone’s quieter than usual and asking about it. It’s staying 20 minutes after a session because an athlete finally figured something out. Our coaches do that every single day, and most of it nobody ever sees. They don’t ask for recognition, but today they’re getting a little more than usual. Thank you to all our coaches. Weighted sled sprints and bounds are a great tool for improving acceleration by increasing the resistance athletes must overcome during the initial steps of a sprint. The added load challenges athletes to produce more horizontal force while reinforcing the importance of striking the ground with intent and applying force into the ground to propel the body forward.
