This is what living in your purpose looks and sounds like... Your girl’s been off the map, but I’ll let the slides and speaking clips speak for themselves.

Gratitude only to @summerhouseinstitute for trusting me to do the most important work alongside you! Let’s make magic happen!

10 years ago, this was just an idea.

A space where people didn’t just arrive, they belonged. A space that gave, that listened, that saw people for who they were and could be.

That’s what @summerhouseinstitute became.

Now I got to share the stage again with @vinny2nd and a crew of absolute legends—friends, family, people who show up and deliver every single time.

This isn’t just full-circle. This is proof of what happens when you build for impact.

And I swear… it’s just warming up. #edfest25

Never in a million years did I think I’d end up in the classroom—let alone back in it. Life has a funny way of placing you exactly where you’re needed, and this past weekend at EdFest 2025 with Summer House Institute, reminded me why I do this work. As a Black man, a Black gay man, and an artist who chases his musical dreams, I never imagined that this would be part of my story. But every hallway hug, every warm meal heated in my office, every kid who escapes into my room just to feel safe—it all matters. I matter. Representation matters.

The saying goes, “You can’t become what you don’t see.” And with Black male educators still making up only 2% of the profession, the work is far from over. I show up every day not just as a teacher—but as a little bit uncle, a little bit auntie (LOL, y’all know the vibes). And at EdFest, I saw firsthand what happens when young Black scholars are seen, poured into, and activated. From the panels to the networking, from the brilliance in the room to the damn good food—and yes, even the Spades table (shoutout to me and @kaptainkurk, the undefeated champs 😎🃏)—this was a Black-ass weekend in the best way possible.

Huge love to my brothers and the entire team at Summer House Institute for creating spaces that are not only shifting the future of education but shifting its approach and making the dream feel obtainable. I left Houston inspired, affirmed, and proud—not just to be an educator, but to be a Black & gay male educator showing up for a generation that deserves to see what’s possible. Until next year, get your fits right and your spades game tight… ’cause the champ will be back.
