🔥 Today’s Session Focus: Receiving & First Touch Excellence ⚽ Spent the session drilling different ways to receive the ball — and the #1 priority? That perfect touch out of the receive. 💯 It’s not just about controlling the ball… it’s about where you take it next. One good touch = beat a defender, open a passing lane, or set your whole attack in motion instantly. ✅ What we worked on: • Receiving on the back foot / half-turn • Taking one touch into space vs. keeping it close • Receiving under pressure & shielding instantly • Touch out → immediately play forward The motto: Your first touch IS your first pass. 🎯 Small details = BIG difference. Love seeing the lads lock in on the fundamentals today! 🙌 #Coaching #Academy #Development #DetailFirst

THE DETAIL: COLE PALMER 🧠⚽️ There’s a lot to take from this action, but the detail I really like is how Palmer uses his body shape and his teammate’s movement to manipulate the defender. Palmer doesn’t simply receive the ball and look to beat his man. He first creates a picture for the defender. 🔹 Body orientation — Palmer opens his body in a way that suggests the next action could be a pass into the teammate’s run. 🔹 Teammate movement — The run creates another problem for the defender. They now have to consider both the ball carrier AND the runner. 🔹 Disguise — Palmer maintains the picture of playing the pass before changing the action at the last moment. 🔹 Defender manipulation — The defender reacts to the information Palmer has given them. That small shift in body position creates the separation Palmer needs. 🔹 Final action — Once the defender has been manipulated, Palmer can attack the space and create the scoring opportunity. The skill isn’t necessarily the final touch. The skill is being able to manipulate the defender before the final touch. For young players, this is something I’d want to bring into training: Can you make the defender believe you’re doing one thing before doing another? Look at your body shape, eyes, first touch, speed of movement and the movement of your teammates. Technical detail isn’t always about doing more. Sometimes it’s about giving the defender the wrong information. #Coaching #Academy #Development #DetailFirst #fyp

10 SEASONS DOWN ⏳⚽ Can’t believe this is my 10th season in academy football… wow, does time fly! 🤯 I’ve learnt so much along the way — and I can’t thank everyone enough who has supported me, guided me, and helped me grow into the coach I am today. Far too many names to list, but you all know who you are 🙏💙 The best part? It’s never just been about developing players — it’s about developing people. That’s what makes this job so incredibly rewarding. ❤️ And seeing players go on to play in the Premier League, across Europe, and represent their countries internationally? There’s no better feeling. So proud of every single one of them! 🥹🏆 Here’s to many more years of growing, learning, and chasing dreams together. 🥂⚽ #Coaching #Academy #Development #Learning #Professional

I was at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja scouting emerging talent, assessing players’ technical ability, tactical awareness, decision-making, movement, positioning, and game intelligence. I help clubs, academies, coaches, and teams with player scouting, talent identification, tactical analysis, and performance analysis. I don’t just watch the game, I analyse it to support better football decisions. ⚽📊 #FootballScouting #TalentIdentification #TacticalAnalysis #PlayerDevelopment

⚽ THE ART OF 1v1 ATTACKING 💥 Fakes, Feints & Unbalancing Your Opponent 🎭 THE FEINT MECHANIC ✅ Step 1: Show one way — open your body, lean, look, and commit your weight to one side ✅ Step 2: Freeze the defender — they shift their weight to match you ✅ Step 3: Explode the opposite way — push off your outside foot, pull the ball across, and accelerate into the space ✅ Result: They’re left flat-footed, off-balance, and beaten ✅ 💡 KEY SECRET: The defender can only move as fast as they can shift their weight. If you make them commit theirs, you steal their momentum. 🔥 WHY IT WORKS • Body language = your weapon → Eyes, hips, shoulders all lie • Timing is everything → Feint just as they step in to tackle • Small movements = big results → You don’t need big tricks — just a convincing lean • Unbalanced defender = half a second advantage → That’s all you need ⏱️ “Speed gets you there, but feints get you past.” 💨 Show them left, go right. Make them commit, then exploit the space. Master the body, master the 1v1. “Your body is the decoy. The ball is the weapon. Make them choose the wrong direction, and you win.” #Development #DetailFirst #Coaching #Academy
