On Friday, 22 May, while commemorating the International Day of the Boy Child with @dbe_za , I had the opportunity to ask Deputy Minister @drreginahmhaule #internationaldayoftheboychild , @baithudimampanefoundation Chairman @thapsglobal , PhD Candidate & Educator @mpho_sahula , and SA National Debate Head Coach @coachitu_ the question:

in relation to the realities facing the children of South Africa - particularly the boy child.
We also unpacked with the boys the pressures they carry, the environments shaping them, the silence around emotional vulnerability, and the responsibility we all share in raising healthier, safer, and more emotionally aware young men. Before we ask boys to lead, we need to ask: What are they carrying? What are they surviving? And who is creating safe spaces for them to speak honestly?

MINGLING WITH GOD FEARING PEEPS

Surrounding yourself with beautiful and God-fearing people is not just about companionship it is about alignment. The people you walk closely with influence your thoughts, your choices, and ultimately your direction in life. When you mingle with those who carry integrity, humility, and reverence for God, their values begin to shape your own. Their strength becomes a covering in your weak moments, their wisdom becomes guidance in your confusion, and their faith becomes a reminder of God’s presence in every season.

God-fearing people inspire you to grow, to stay grounded, and to pursue purpose over distraction. They don’t just celebrate your successes they also correct you in love and stand in the gap when you feel weary. In their presence, you are constantly being refined, uplifted, and drawn closer to God.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are delighted to announce the 2025 ASDF Annual Award for the COACH OF THE YEAR! The award goes to Itumeleng Mohanoe from Team South Africa WSDC of the South African Schools Debating Board!

Coach Mohanoe was instrumental in helping Team South Africa finish in the Top 8 for the first time in 7 years at this years WSDC in Panama! He is a true legend in his own right and is also one (if not the only) of the few coaches in the continent who has coaches two national teams, South Africa and Tanzania.
