St. Pete Sixes! 🖤

We had 21 Lax Ballers come out for Sixes today! It was an energetic day with a plethora of behind-the-back shots 🤯 and an overwhelming barrage💥 of 2-point goals.

We gave out two pennies today for our coolest 😎 shot. @m.beddow showed off his one-handed wrap around shot, one-handed between-the-legs shot, and absolute prowess from behind the 2-point arc. @coach_holden21 had a beautiful flick on goal, a strong behind-the-back take, and clinical finishes all day long.

There were several other spectacular trick shot goals and attempts; including a couple of behind-the-back-between-the-legs shots. We see you out here grinding your stick skills, keep up the work! 🥍

Each game was a great contest, with a first game buzzer beater to seal it for the Hammerheads.

Game Results:
Hammerheads - 11
Silver Kings - 10

Silver Kings - 15
Dolphins - 17

Hammerheads - 21
Dolphins - 18

We’re back next week for our final games of St. Pete Sixes. We’re going to have a skills competition, accuracy challenge, goalie proficiency, and fastest shot contest. It should be a blast!

Come celebrate the final week of our inaugural season. 🫶💯

Thank you to everyone who came out! We’re back next week; same time, same place. We will be weaving in some giveaways for our last two weeks. Practice your trick shots and we’ll see you on the field.

[Quick LovingStPete update below] Free lacrosse clinics continue today at Jack Puryear Park from 5:30-6:30pm for 2nd-7th grades! We’ve been cranking for 2+ months, but recently changed from Thursdays to Mondays to accommodate soccer scheduling. To be added to the lacrosse email list, simply msg me.

First, with a week of school under our belt, LovingStPete is back from a 99% summer screen break, other than work and family TV/movies. More focused 🧑‍🧑‍🧒 time, work, exploring, serving at church (thx to wife’s nudge, she’s been at it for 15+ months), Auburn non-profit, new pup, lacrosse, etc.

I’m fired up to return, posting locally owned places, giveaways, nature spots, plus day trip suggestions. Thanks for following along!

Before I get into those posts, reminder about our free lacrosse at Jack Puryear Park! I’m grateful for @stpetelaxtraining and his 🥍 buddies for volunteering their time. A community effort! Interested in private lessons? Contact coach Pat, info in comments.

I haven’t posted about lacrosse since May’s kickoff post. Hoped for 10 kids, but more joined out of the gate, so I wanted to get bearings before advertising further. Plus, the screen-time hiatus. But now, with the support of NE St Pete parents, we have bigger goals. More to follow...

Spread the word to others and join us on Mondays! For those new to the sport (most thus far), a lacrosse stick is provided for use at the clinics. Our summer schedule continues until 9/23, minus Labor Day, and we’ll figure it out from there.

Thanks to a partnership with the “Play It Again Sports” location just over Gandy, you’ll receive 15% off your lacrosse gear between now and 9/23. Simply mention LovingStPete at checkout! They have the largest used 🥍 selection I’ve seen around TB. Big thanks to Kevin, store owner, for his love of our Tampa Bay community and encouraging kids take up new sports. A great store, covering many sports at affordable prices! 3914 Britton Plaza, Tampa.

Cheers - Mike

I am extremely blessed to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Coker University! I would first like to thank God for leading me in the right direction and giving me strength throughout this process. I’d like to thank Coach Ambrose for this amazing opportunity to play at the next level. I would also love to thank my parents and family (especially my mom) for supporting me through my process and helping this lifelong dream come true.

Thanks to all my friends and teammates for supporting me throughout this process. A special shout-out to Hunter Rudisill, Walter Wolfe, and Hunter Coffman for always being there when I needed them the most.

Many thanks to FL Lax Goalie Academy, Goalie Island, Peak Goalie, Goaliesmith, Blake Ulmer, St Pete lax training, Coach Bryan and Crease Kings for helping me reach this goal and training me to become the best version of myself. I would also like to thank all my coaches from FLC Bayhawks, True Florida, and Coach Carey from Shred Thread for helping me get the exposure I needed. I would also like to thank my high school coaches Coach Graves, Coach Kay, Coach Pat, Coach Delisle and Coach Brooks for mentoring me throughout my High school Career. Roll Cobras 🐍

Amazing response to the LovingStPete partnership w/ @knightslacrossefoundation! FREE one hour lacrosse clinics on Thursdays from 5:30pm-6:30pm, starting June 6th! Open to all kids between 2nd grade & 7th grade. See you next Thursday at Jack Puryear Park! Scroll down if you reached out to me, though haven’t heard back.

Yes, best news of the week is that @stpeteparksrec has us a dedicated field in Jack Puryear Park! Great phone calls with their team and much appreciate their help. Many of us in the NE area of St Pete know JPP well. More parking than Denver Park, restrooms, lights when needed, playground, etc. It’s an amazing facility and I couldn’t be more excited!

Very grateful for our volunteer coaches and their willingness to dedicate their time. @stpetelaxtraining (Pat Scott) is taking the lead from a coaching perspective, though he’ll have a great supporting cast! Pat is well known around the TB LAX community. Local high school players pointed me his way…he’s been fantastic. Lacrosse is his fuel for life and community.

Please keep in mind that those involved are volunteering their time and resources. This is a friendly way for kids to learn lacrosse and have fun at the same time. I’ve observed some uncomfortable situations at other youth sporting events that I can’t quite wrap my head around, really want to avoid that here. Bring a lawn chair, kick back, and relax while the kids have fun and learn from great players.

ADD YOUR NAME TO THE LIST: if you sent me a msg and didn’t receive a reply, I missed your msg. Apologies. Please send me your email address, as most LAX communication will be done via email going fwd. First one goes out by tomorrow. Lots going on behind the scenes.

We’re in great hands with Ryan Becker of Knights Lacrosse Foundation. Fortunately, because I know nothing about lacrosse! I simply know pancreatic cancer and that not every child enjoys ie ⚽️⚾️🏈 (see my prior lacrosse post). It’s been fun running with it. “Wait, I thought tennis was your sport?” Yes, but now I’m the proud owner of a cheap “dad stick” from Play it Again Sports. Maybe I’ll even book a night at a Holiday Inn Express in hopes their commercials are accurate.
