Your feet might not be the problem.

Your hips and ankles probably are.

Toes pointing out is usually a training gap, not a life sentence.

The two most common culprits:

1️⃣ Tight hip external rotators + weak internal rotators. Muscles like the piriformis and glutes pull your thighs outward while the muscles that turn them in (glute med/min, adductors) get lazy. Hours of sitting make it worse.

2️⃣ Stiff ankles. Tight calves limit how far your ankle bends forward, so your feet turn out to “cheat” past the stiffness with every step.

Other contributors: weak core and glutes, anterior pelvic tilt, flat feet, and habits from wide-stance training or dance.

⚠️ Not all out-toeing is fixable with stretching. Some people have bony differences in the hip or shin. If you’re unsure which you have, a physical therapist can tell you.

The good news? If it’s muscular, it’s trainable.

Mobilize the hips, open up the ankles, strengthen the glutes, and practice walking with your feet pointed forward. 👣

Want more muscle growth from the same workout?

Focus on the STRETCH. 💪

Research keeps showing that training a muscle in its lengthened position (the bottom of a squat, the deep stretch of a Romanian deadlift, the overhead position on a triceps extension) leads to greater hypertrophy over time than training only in the shortened range.

Why it matters:

✅ More muscle growth from the same effort
✅ Strength through a fuller range of motion
✅ Healthier, more resilient muscles and joints

Try this: slow down the lowering phase, pause for a second in the stretch, and don’t cut your reps short at the bottom.

Your future gains will thank you. 🙌

Jokes aside 🧻 , I’ve got a bunch of friends competing this weekend 🫡

Sending them all the love for the first race out here in SLC.

A bunch already crushed it yesterday, and many more are going today and tomorrow!

Side note - it was a ghost town by the ski erg and sled this morning at the gym 😅
