POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Did you know that the state of North Dakota has produced 20 Major League Baseball players across their history as of 2026? The first was catcher James "Truck" Hannah in 1918 with the Yankees, while the most recent one was pitcher Jay Flaa, who made one appearance for each of the Orioles and Braves in 2021.

Out of these 20 players, outfielder/first baseman Darin Erstad played in the most seasons with 14, followed by pitcher Rick Helling and first baseman Travis Hafner with 12 each. Erstad is the state's all-time leader in games played, hits, doubles, triples, stolen bases, batting average, and bWAR, while Hafner leads the pack in home runs, RBI, and OPS. On the pitching side, Helling leads in almost every category, but Matt Strahm is the leader in appearances and saves.

Only Erstad and Strahm have been selected to the All-Star Game, the former earning that honor twice. Erstad, Helling, and catcher Chris Coste are the only ones to have played on World Series-winning rosters, while Flaa also appeared for a team who went on to win the Fall Classic but did not pitch in the playoffs. Erstad is also the only North Dakotan to win a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger, winning the former three times.

We got to watch Cory play for the Naval Academy this past weekend. What he is doing is exceptional and we couldn’t be more proud.

37 years in the game of Baseball and this ranks up there as one of the coolest things I’ve got to experience for a few reasons.

Cory Carver messaged me last week and asked if I would go up and be apart of The Roy Halladay Award Ceremony Banquet. My answer “It would be an honor.” As a Coach this is what it’s all about when one of your players text you that.

First, just wanted to say thank you to the Halladay family. No one respects people in this game who have played it at the highest level than me. Roy was a Hall of Fame Legend whose legacy is continuing to change lives all over.

To all the Colorado Baseball royalty that was there yesterday it was a pleasure to catch up with so many Legends of the Sport.

This one was full circle for me as my first roommate with the Chicago Cubs was Derek Hines who was Roy’s teammate and great friend at Arvada HighSchool. Derek passed away not too long ago so when I was asked to talk it meant the world.

Baseball is a fraternity and there is nothing like the baseball family.

To the Carver and Schmitt family thank you for all and making me apart of the family. All you are great people and it has been a pleasure working with your boys over the years, but I know the best is yet to come.

To Cory, I mean where do I start. The hours this young man and me have spent together over the years has been something I will cherish always. From all the great moments, ass rippings (we’ve had a few great ones) , hitting and fielding competitions (I’m still the King😀 he knows)and all the work I’m so proud of him.

The consistency to great work the past 8 years is 2nd to none. Cory never missed. Every week this little kid would so up and lay bricks. Then as he turned into a young man those bricks kept stacking up. That’s why he is headed to Navy.

Cory just wasn’t great on the field he also carried a 4.2 GPA in the classroom. There were 17,000 applicants to Navy and he was one selected, incredible.

Lastly, to be able to have my boy be apart of this with me was priceless. This one was extra special and will be in my heart forever

Go NAVY !!

Last JV football game for Ryan and the Wolves yesterday. They fought hard against Creek but fell just a bit short. Loved watching my boy in blue this year 💙🖤🐺

Day 2 of our @cotswoldsguided tour took us to four South Cotswold villages including Bibury, Malmesbury, Castle Combe, and Lacock. Another day full of interesting history, beautiful buildings, rolling hills, an Abbey built in the 1100’s 🤯, a hotel that claims to be one of the UK’s oldest, and several famous film locations from Harry Potter and Downton Abbey. We lucked out with an absolutely gorgeous day (really we lucked out our whole trip. Only two mornings did we have a bit of rain and clouds. The rest of the days were sunny and warm). Truly a lovely way to wrap up our week in the UK 🥰 We will be back!
