As we conclude the regular season, we wanted to take time to acknowledge the breaking of an over 41 year old program record.

Set by Jeff Bonacquista in 1984, and tied by Luke Gradishar in 1996, the season and career triples record was officially broken by class of 2026 junior Caeden Herrera.

Caeden etches his name in the record books amongst two legends of Southside baseball as he extended triples 9 times this season and now has 11 on his career. Caeden ended the 2025 regular season at the top of the South Central League in Batting Average, Slugging Percentage, RBIs, and Triples, tied for 1st in Homeruns, and #2 in Runs scored and on base percentage, as well as #2 Batters Struck Out and #3 in wins as a pitcher.

Bonacquista went on to win a national championship at Wichita State and was also drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals. Gradishar went on to play college ball at Gonzaga before finishing his career at the University of San Fransisco.

The company Caeden is in on this list is something we do not take for granted as Mr. Bonacquista and Mr. Gradishar are still essential to our program’s foundation to this day. Congratulations, Caeden Herrera!

In what was potentially our last game of the season at Runyon, Camron Montoya was an absolute dawg on the mound tonight against the #1 team in the state. Cam and the boys held the Falcon Falcons to 1 run on 4 hits. The difference maker was a couple falling Falcon’s way, as we matched 4A’s best stride for stride for 7 innings straight. The No Fly Zone continued to hold down the outfield by selling out to make some big plays.

We have two more left on the season and we are every bit finding our stride. Our goal is to continue to play for these seniors and extend their seasons as long as we can go, playing together for each other, and every man doing his job.

We will see you at CSU-Pueblo this weekend.

Extended stats available on MaxPreps.

We know what these uniforms mean to our program. These nearly 30 year old pieces of history have seen two state championships, one in 1997 and one in 2001 where our assistant Coach Nick Pickerel was the MVP of the state tournament. They’ve seen a lot of success, which is why we do not take wearing them lightly and we treat doing so as a privilege and not a right.

The guys who have come before us earned the right to their legacy. And we are doing everything we can to do our part in solidifying our places in the longstanding tradition and culture of excellence that is Pueblo South High School.

To be a South Colt is a special thing. And that’s why we could not have picked a better game to pull them out and honor all who have come before us while we celebrate the class of 2025.

Head to our Facebook and Instagram all week to see these classic uniforms in action as we celebrate the class of 2025 and getting them a senior night victory.

Congratulations to senior Damian Cordova on being named the @kktv11news Classroom Champion.

Damian carries himself with excellence in all that he does. In the classroom, he’s stellar, ranking amongst the top in his class, getting a 5 on the AP Calculus test and consistently holding a 4.0+ GPA.

On the field, Damian is a multisport athlete, earning varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball for the Colts. He’s been a key piece to our success this year on the field with his high performance and great leadership.

But the best part about Damian is Damian the person. This guy is a phenomenal teammate and classmate and even better friend. He is a high character human being who is compassionate and reliable. We are lucky to have this guy on our side.

Damian will study engineering in college and is deciding between the University of Colorado and the Colorado School of Mines.

Thank you KKTV for recognizing all of Damian’s hard work!

We started the freshman against the #2 team in 4A and MJ Molina gave every bit of himself for 7 full innings, striking out 5. It took 9 innings and a whole lot of grit to come down to a walk as the decision maker but we are no less proud of every single dude in this lineup.

Top to bottom, we fought against 3 solid pitchers and went toe to toe in a tough exchange of blows. We grinded for 9 and came up short, but we notched a triple play in the process.

There’s a ton of season left. We will learn from the mistakes of this one and press forward, but man, this team. It’s special. And they are fun to be around and the brotherhood keeps getting stronger. We’re gonna keep competing, but win or lose, we love these guys. There’s no other way around it. Onto Saturday.

Some of our dudes had the opportunity to meet up and play each other at the next level.

The brotherhood will always be strong with the class of 2023. They laid a foundation to get us here. We are incredibly proud of each of them and we are excited to see what they continue to do with their opportunities.

𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐎𝐅 𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐄𝐁𝐀𝐋𝐋.

We want to take time to recognize some of our guys who had big weeks.

The Worker (Performance) of the Week goes to Camron Montoya. Cam was an absolute dawg against Mesa Ridge, going 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and a double at the plate and closing the game out with a pick off and strikeout for the save to help the Colts secure the victory. We are looking for Cam to continue his momentum as we have some big games ahead to finish out this season.

Teammate of the Week this week is Drew Nolasco. Drew is learning firsthand the art of playing even and refusing to give up or backdown. If he isn’t having the day he wants at the plate, the goal has become being a defensive asset and great teammate so that he can control his mental and still be productive for the team in some way. He came up with some big hits against Mesa Ridge and strong defense on Saturday. He’s shifted into making great contact and is poised for a breakout here soon. We know it.

Throughout the season, we will honor our top performance and teammate contribution as a way to acknowledge the hard work these guys put in day in and day out. Congratulations, gentlemen. Continue to stack days and build on this. We look forward to more to come.
