Life lately looks like a lot of unfinished to-do lists, teenagers, preteens, sunsets and laughter and untangling and more love than I could ever contain.

Lisa Harper pulled me aside and told me: “I looked at you and I said, ‘She is so Songs-of-Solomonesque.’” And it’s my favorite compliment I’ve ever received.

I probably haven’t called or texted you back, and it’s simply because if you could see the inner most corners of my life atm, you’d understand. It’s never personal.

I feel more genuine peace than I think I’ve ever experienced, and that comes along with mourning, heartache, release, and many tearful phone calls.

Coby reminded me that I’ve allowed myself to be a warrior externally, but it’s time I allow the internal warrior to be seen. I’m learning to see her and love her and allow her to shine (and fight!).

Beautiful, precious, colorful life! I love you! I’m so grateful for you!

“If the school board wants a fight, they’re going to get a fight.”

The new principal sat in the back of his class without telling him. Then she asked him for a favor: help her get the teachers to stop fighting.

He did not say no right away. He asked her to finish the sentence. Not to fight. Not to save their jobs. Not to save their students. Not to save the school.

Then he said no.

“Last time I checked, you’re my drama teacher, not my parole officer.”

He is sixteen. He just told her he is dropping out and that his parents are fine with it.

She did not argue. She told him he was talented, and then she asked him what he was hiding.

Send this to the teacher who would not let you quit.

“This is a school, not a church. Saving their souls is not your responsibility.”

The new principal said that to the one teacher still fighting to keep Westbrook open. He answered her by her first name. She answered him with “Mr. Bennett.”

Ninety seconds later she tells another teacher to call the police on her own students.

Send this to the teacher in your life.

“That means layoffs, people.”

Westbrook is one of the top schools in the state and they are closing it to save money. The teachers just found out they can go apply for jobs at the school replacing theirs.

Then the district walks out the new principal, and one teacher in that room goes completely still.
