Most of us learned to stay quiet long before we understood why.

We were taught what not to be, and shame did the teaching. Keeping our mouths shut became the price of belonging, and for a while it felt like safety.

But that silence has a cost. It leaves women and children less safe, and it leaves so many men carrying everything on their own.

The same silence that stops us calling out a mate is the same silence that stops us saying "I'm not okay."

It doesn't have to stay this way. It takes courage to speak up, and it takes courage to be seen. Both start with one honest conversation.

I made a wish, and I got what I wanted… a life in fashion, modeling, representing a lifestyle that I love. ✨
Life, the Universe, God — it doesn’t matter what name you give it. It opened doors for me and showed me the way I needed to go.
But nothing comes without lessons. I had to fight, stay strong, believe in myself, and keep moving forward even when things were difficult.
Along the journey, I started to understand what life is really about. It’s not only about success, beauty, or achieving our dreams. Many times, it comes with pain, heartbreak, challenges, and suffering.
Yet every dark chapter carries a lesson, and every struggle helps us grow. The darkness can feel overwhelming, but it often leads us to the brightest light.
Today, I know that everything I have been through has helped shape the person I am becoming. Stronger. Wiser. More authentic. More grateful.
Life has a beautiful way of guiding us exactly where we need to be.
And sometimes, the darkest paths lead us to the most shining light in the end. ♥️✨
I post many portraits of me from Samantha Hensley my beloved friend and amazing photographer… because eyes are the door to the soul @morenamzungu

Nothing I write will ever do this retreat justice. In a world full of men lacking in purpose, meaning, or direction, it’s so easy to look in the wrong direction for guidance. However, there are groups of individuals forging a new path and holding space for men to find themselves. This is the second year I’ve been to the @men_ofearth weekend facilitated by @the.chris.geisler and it’s solidified my opinion that this is needed in our current world. Men getting together, working on themselves and holding space for the men next to them. It’s profound and truly life changing. These events are the ones that will always be in my heart, I’ll remember them moments for the rest of my life. Thank you to all the men involved 💪

This work is changing men's lives and connecting them to their hearts.

Our LV1 Intiation was our most powerful container yet.

‘Real. Understanding. Authentic. Present. Comfortable. Honourable. Strong. Sensitive. Empathetic. Honest.’

These were some of the answers when asked ‘what does it mean to be a man?’ at last night’s event ‘Break The Mould Men: a conversation about the modern man’ that I hosted at our local bookshop, Read-on-Sea along with Steven Rosen.

Men’s mental health is a topic that’s been on my mind a lot lately. I’ve experienced first hand the cost when we’re not open about how we really feel. So I was keen to have an open discussion about what it means to show up as a man. And to discover what might be stopping us talking about difficult things.

During the evening, I shared my own experiences of the difference it has made being open and vulnerable in my cancer journey. We also explored how to change the narrative on masculinity, the steps we can take to be open and honest with each other, and how vulnerability can be a strength.

It was a great group of men and women. Quite a few were those I would describe as being ‘on the front line’. One guy worked in rehab; another supports young men through boxing. One spoke about the lack of male role models when young and how he taught himself, looking to prominent ‘male’ voices that ultimately didn’t serve him. Many shared moving and thought provoking stories about working with and helping young people and men. I learned so much from these other voices and their experiences.

We closed by sharing our thoughts on the tools we can use and the steps we can take to make a change in how we show up in our friendships, relationships, workplaces and communities. It felt really good to be able to hold a space and be part of what felt like a much-needed conversation. It was good to throw a little light onto this timely and pressing matter of what it means to be a man today.

All ticket proceeds were donated to @calmzone - the campaign against living miserably. Thanks to Manuel at @read_on_sea for his support with this event.
