Why does a cache reduce load on your database?

The short version: don't cache everything. Cache what's read often and rarely changes. Skip anything that's read once (like an OTP). And watch out for staleness — the gap between when your DB updates and when your cache catches up.

Both checked the database: "1 ticket left".
Both payments succeeded.
And the database just sold 1 item to 2 different people... 📉❌

This is a classic RACE CONDITION.

If your code looks like this:
1. Check if stock > 0
2. Reduce stock by 1
3. Create order

👉 Your system is vulnerable to double-booking. Why? Because these are separate, non-atomic steps!

Here’s how top engineers fix it:
⚡ OPTIMISTIC LOCKING: Use conditional updates like `UPDATE items SET stock = stock - 1 WHERE id = 7 AND stock > 0;`. Zero lock contention, blazing fast!
🔒 PESSIMISTIC LOCKING: Put an exclusive physical lock with `SELECT * FROM items WHERE id = 7 FOR UPDATE;` inside a transaction. Guaranteed zero double-booking for limited seats or payments.
