Hug The Block: Year 6 ❤️‍🔥

Every Thanksgiving Eve, we show up for our neighbors the same way we hope the world would show up for us.
Warm meals. Hot showers. Blankets. Dignity. Community.
None of it happens without you.

We just released our 2nd round of volunteer roles for this year’s event: setup crew, kitchen help, bartenders + runners, shower attendants, toiletries + blankets, and breakdown crew.

If you’ve ever wanted to help, this is the day to do it.

We hired @thisislern when Nonis closed. Our favorite restaurant on Edgewood. It was a space so different from ours at @ourbaratl . Quieter, softer, more polished. But even from across that cultural divide, they always showed us love.

When the doors were nearing their final swing, we closed for a night and threw a takeover party to honor what Nonis meant to all of us. That night, Lern asked @thechellestrategy for a job.

Our worlds couldn’t have been more different.. our menus, our service, our crowds… night and day. But she didn’t flinch. She walked in with heart, humility, and her own steady rhythm. And just like that, she became our family.

Tonight, she leaves us. And while it feels sad, it also feels right. Because growth demands discomfort. It asks you to leap without a map, to try new flavors, new cities, new ways of being. And I like to think Our Bar pushed her edges just enough to make the unknown feel a little less scary.

She’s leaving with more than just shifts under her belt. She’s carrying with her the banter of the block boys, the drunk and loud arguing of her coworkers, the much-needed movie nights when we’re closed, the help from our unhoused neighbors during bar cleans, the chaos and charm of a bar that never sleeps.

These aren’t just memories: they’re tools now. Armor. Perspective. Vibes she can’t unlearn lol

So while we’re gutted to see her go, we’re also incredibly proud. Proud she’s nervous. Proud she’s hesitant. Proud she’s going anyway.

Lern, you know where to find us. This place doesn’t change much. But tonight, we don’t cling, we push. We push you forward, toward everything you haven’t seen yet.
