Catch the jab and let it come to you, don’t swipe at the jab and pay the price.

When you swipe, your hand travels across your face - and the side it came from is now open. That’s exactly where the hook lands.

The fix:
- Catch the jab on the SAME side
- Open palm, let it come to you
- Don’t reach for it

The catch-check drill:
1. Partner throws the jab - you catch it
2. Partner feints the jab and throws the hook - you check it
If you’ve been swiping, the hook finds you every time. That’s the point - the drill tells you the truth.

Save this for your next partner session.

My UFC Sydney card builder for February 6th next year! It’s a fight night not a ppv so no Carlos Ulberg 🤦!

Every client I train learns this system first. Beginner or pro, same foundation.

The numbers:
1 - jab
2 - jab, cross
3 - jab, cross, hook
4 - jab, cross, hook, cross

Then the pads fire back.
- I throw with the free hand, you slip.
- Whichever side you slip to is now loaded. Two punches back off it.
- Push the fighter around so he learns to fire these shots going all directions.

You never know if the return is coming. That’s the point. You can’t switch off after your combo, because that’s exactly when you get hit in a fight.

Drill it enough and the defence stops being something you think about. It just becomes part of how you punch.

Save this for your next pad round and send it to whoever holds for you.

Kick when they aren’t ready, not when they are.

Save this and try it next time you drill with your partner, feel the difference

Block the kick. Fire back. Then make it live.

4 levels of Dutch drilling:

Level 1 - The Dutch block. Stay compact. Palm and forearm take the kick at the same time.

Level 2 - Block, then two punches straight off it. No pause.

Level 3 - Take turns. Boxing combo and a kick, then theirs.

Level 4 - Now one person interrupts. Stop them getting their shot off.

Save this for your next partner session. Which level are you on?
