Seasons greetings, one and all! It's that special time of the year again— Drink and Draw. Our next drink and draw is next Monday, December 12 at 6PM at @aeronautbrewing in Somerville, and this month, we have the one and only @codyjohnston.design! Here's a bit about him: "Cody Johnston: of Southern Virginian origin, matured on the East Coast, and aged in Boston with strong forward notes of Product Design followed by after notes of Art Direction, Branding, & Illustration. Pairs well with deep-fried snacks, pit-smoked BBQ, Scotch, campouts, fitness, nerd shit, dogs & cats, Xbox & Nintendo, and cannabis." You can find his work at codyjohnston.design or on his Instagram at @codyjohnston.design. See you at the last drink and draw of the year!

Our website is live! Head on over to LambertShellfish.co and check it out! We’ll be updating/iterating regularly, but it’s time to get going with this already! Now then, I figure it’s an appropriate time to share a bit of backstory on our logo, and how much of a pleasure it’s been working with Cody! Last summer, while out on the pad, I started brainstorming what our logo should be – I wanted something simple, classic, yet modern, a sort of caveman-esque symbol/hieroglyphic that had some meaning behind it, so I started playing around with ideas on post-it notes: · The two trees allude to the loblolly pines on our property, and represent me and my dad (who’s helped get this business off the ground), · Our property (Great Neck Point) is a peninsula, so I tried to capture its landscape contour (the bottom line of our logo-mark) · The two waves also represent the two tides in a day Once again, Allison just happened to know a brand designer named Cody (who literally grew up next door to her!) and she introduced us in October of 2019. We shot some emails back and forth, had a few phone calls, and things started moving forward. I think it’s worth noting that Cody wanted to know more: more about our story, what we were trying to do differently, what we were excited about, and our plans for the future (as this information would contribute to the “brand design exploration”). By December, Cody had put together a slide deck with competitor research and analysis, design strategy, and logo iterations. If it wasn’t already clear, I think that call solidified it for me: this is someone you want to be working with. Of the three different logo iterations he presented, the first stood out to me as the clear winner; it just felt right. And the more I looked at it, the more I began seeing window panes, not unlike the ones I used to look out of to watch the watermen when this all began! Since this first experience together, Cody has designed our business cards and our boxes, helped set up our social media accounts, and most recently built our website. Cody has been thoughtful and professional every step of the way. There’s plenty more exciting this to come, so stay tuned!

We’ve brought the #BSDSThunderdome back for monthly sessions this year. March’s challenge was to give the ever-so-wonderful @nationalparkservice a fresh new look in light of #NationalParkWeek, #EarthDay, and #ArborDay! Take a look at some of the designs coming fresh out of the Bay State region!

Welp, we officially have ourselves a logo! There’s a bit of a backstory to this design but I’ll probably save that for another time/post. For now, I just wanted to put it out there and give a huge shout out to @codyjohnston.design for all the work he did with this. His genuine interest to hear “our story,” the amount of thought/research he put behind his work, and his professional yet relaxed/comfortable vibe made this whole thing a really enjoyable and exciting experience. I can’t wait to start using this logo and see what else Cody and I can come up with next!

"There is a historic flag that unofficially represents the entire region of New England. Given New England’s maritime culture, the eastern white pine (typically featured on the flag) was commonly used in ship building, so it only felt right to replace the tree in this design with the one ingredient that truly makes the classic New England IPA." @CodyJohnston.Design⠀ ⠀ #BSDS #BayStateDesignShop #BSDSBrews #NewEnglandBrew #NewEngland #Massachusetts #Maine #Vermont #NewHampshire #Connecticut #RhodeIsland #Design #GraphicDesign #Designer #Illustration #Boston #Beer #Backlash #BacklashBeerCo #NewEnglandIPA #IPA #Hops #AFHBoston #ArtistsForHumanity @afhboston⠀ ⠀ Thanks to all of our partners:⠀ @bonehaus @richiestewart @noahrevoir @backlashbeer @arttoframes @coasterfactory @mingopress @kirkwoodus
