Books!!!! Reference…. This matters. Chances are 80% of the new people tattooing these days, use an iPad and AI as their “reference”. That….. is not tattooing. It’s an imaginary digital world that they’ve made up. It’s their own thing. It is not real… I couldn’t be more thankful for all the people that keep pushing the boundaries on quality tattoo books that play a huge part to keep the magic alive.

God bless all the Tattoo world. The only one. The real one. 💚

Сьогодні я хочу поділитися невеликим оглядом моєї бібліотеки.

Місця, де я можу годинами вивчати, читати та занурюватися в те, що надихає мене найбільше.
Я щиро вірю, що книги - важлива частина творчого шляху художника. Вони допомагають нам розвиватися, дають нові ідеї та підтримують нашу допитливість.

Книги дають можливість зануритися у філософію мистецтва, побачити еволюцію стилів, відчути зв’язок з майстрами минулого. Це натхнення, це дослідження, це розвиток.

Моя бібліотека зростає разом зі мною як з художником і як тату майстром. І кожне нове видання, це ще один крок на шляху глибшого розуміння тату-культури.

Я хочу подякувати усім, завдяки кому поповнювалася моя бібліотека, ви неймовірні 🩷

Today I want to share a brief overview of my library.

It’s a place where I can spend hours studying, reading, and immersing myself in what inspires me the most.
I truly believe that books are an important part of an artist’s creative journey. They help us grow, give us new ideas, and fuel our curiosity.

Books give us the chance to delve into the philosophy of art, see the evolution of styles, and feel a connection to the masters of the past. It’s inspiration, it’s exploration, it’s growth.

My library grows alongside me as both an artist and a tattoo artist. And every new book is another step toward a deeper understanding of tattoo culture.

I want to thank everyone who has helped expand my library-you’re incredible 🩷

Back in 2002/03, when I was just starting out, @alfredomojo told me something I’ve never forgotten:

“Gargiulo, I suggest you start buying books and studying what you want to do.” 😅

And that’s exactly what I did. ❤️

Over the years, it became a real passion. I started collecting books about tattooing, Japanese art, art history, and so many other things. Not just to look at beautiful images, but to learn, discover, and understand more about the things I love.

Today, I want to share a little look at my library and our drawing room at South Ink Tattoo Shop, probably my favorite place in the world. A place where I can spend hours drawing, studying, reading, and getting lost in the things that inspire me the most.

I truly believe books are an important part of an artist’s journey. They help us grow, give us new ideas, and keep our curiosity alive.

Nossa biblioteca sempre em crescimento… quando comecei a tatuar não tinha grana para comprar livros de tattoo, desenho ou afins. Eu usava os da loja que aprendi a tatuar que não tinha uma biblioteca de tradicional muito grande. Em 2018 consegui comprar meu primeiro livro o: Tradicional Tattoos Vol 2. Comprei também o de ornamentos, animais e “como desenhar corpo” Fui adicionando as famosas “xerox” que toda loja tem. Na minha primeira viagem pra fora tentei comprar o máximo de livros que pude, bem como zines de tatuadores, prints e line books. Ainda faltam muitos livros que gostaria de ter e acredito ainda que eles são nosso maior tesouro aqui no @ftwtattooco e sempre farão parte do nosso aprendizado, a tecnologia existe e ela nos ajuda em pesquisas nos dias de hoje também, mas jamais ocupará a sensação que é abrir um livro e pesquisar uma imagem. Enfim nos preparando para a revolução das máquinas hahaha. #tattoobooklibrary
