Our fall exhibitions open TONIGHT! Join us from 6:30–8:30 PM for the opening event.

This season's work examines how artists use photographs, moving images, inherited objects, and family archives to shape, preserve, and reconsider the past. Across the exhibitions, memory is presented as something formed through relationships, rather than something that is retrieved from the past.

Two weeks at @vermontstudiocenter.

If there’s anything you can take away from a time that has become the past, it’s the memories of the people who made it one to look back on. Thankful for this cohort. We connected through many conversations about life and art and some tomfoolery, too! Along the way, I suppose some work was made too.

More to post.

For the past 12 days I’ve had the singular pleasure of joining a wildly talented cohort of artists and writers for a residency at the @vermontstudiocenter in Johnson, VT. I have written more than 12,000 new words in these two short weeks — a number I share to chronicle the important and valuable investment of time away from the obligations, joys, and distractions of “real” life. I miss my people, but have met new people — true friends — who have shared vulnerably and honestly about their lives as artists.

Thank you, thank you, to the @vermontstudiocenter administration and staff for showing me such hospitality in these green mountains. I will never forget it!

🎥 As part of our #ArtinDialogue and #NARSArtistsPresent series, we are pleased to present a screening of works by artists-in-residence Erika Choe (@achoerik) and Colby Lamson-Gordon (@colbylg), organized by NARS Curatorial Fellow Vu Thien An (Thea) Nguyen (@av0cuddl3).

The screening will take place in parallel with the NARS Spring Open Studios, taking place on June 5 & 6.

Erika Choe’s 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘣 explores mothering, birth, rebirth, and loss through a video-based performance that examines permeability, vulnerability, and bodily transformation. Through the slathering of clay across the skin, Choe approaches material as both armor and cleansing, navigating the unstable boundary between protection and exposure. The work confronts viewers with questions of endurance and abjection, using mothering as a vessel through which soma, memory, and psycho trauma become entangled.

Colby Lamson-Gordon’s 𝘙𝘦𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘰𝘯, and 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘐 𝘸𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 navigate adoption, emotional distance, and the search for familial connection through archival footage, digital mapping, and personal narration. Across both works, memory and geography become unstable terrains shaped by longing, displacement, and imagined reunion.

The screening will be followed by a conversation moderated by Hebin Rachel Shin (@binvin.hrs), Creative Manager at gmtc-golden monkey trading company.

at my artist residency at @narsfoundation, the artists-in-residence gather together every thursday for our weekly community time where we call ASAP! hosted by two paired artists each week, they lead the group in inquiry-based activities such as art-making, reflection, or conversation. ASAP gives the majority international cohort an opportunity to foster cross-cultural exchange and share different traditions, perspectives and creative practices.

ASAP can mean many things:
artists sitting and pondering
as slow as possible
artists sharing artists’ practices
a space for art and play
artists, space, action, process

last week, @very.petite and i were thinking about memory, release, and collective archive.

we invited everyone to bring in an object we want to remember, but are willing to let go of. something small, something personal. together, we introduced our objects to one another; remembering. we demolished these objects, destroying it down to bits and fragments, literally blending them into a shared material; letting go. these remnants were then divided into small jars. we decorated labels and bedazzled our collective archive, each jar becomes an offering. each fragment, a redistributed memory; accepting. then traded our jars to someone else; taking part.

what was once held individually circulated; transformed, displaced, carried by someone else.

an archive you don’t keep.
a memory you no longer own.

fun fun fun!

The Way Home Lies Next to the Skin is a participatory performance led by @colbylg and I and featuring @cpauljordan this time around at @narsfoundation and curated by @reinfected. This performance explores the relationship between sound, memory and mapping of home. Using live audio and Google Maps street view of places that participants call home, people will locate where home lives within the body through digital imagery, physical gestures and sensations.

It was beautiful to bear witness to each other’s home. In this performance we moved between Sultan Kudurat, PI (the hometown of my Lola), Kunming (Colby’s birthtown), New York and Thailand. @colbylg @cpauljordan and my presence were like 3 different worlds existing parallel to each other. Sometimes in unison, sometimes separate.
