POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Neither of us grew up in this kind of elk country. Colbs grew up hunting water-fowl and upland birds, and I grew up on a tree farm with a vegan never more than a stones throw away.

Learning the hills alongside my Colbs has been the greatest gift. We do everything together, but being in the elk hills together often makes the most sense. It’s a place we can both be alone, appreciating different things, yet still be side by side.

We’ve been hiking and hunting since season opened, but this one was all Colbs. He went up alone yesterday afternoon and pitched a mean lean-to for the night. Before dawn even thought about herself, he was back up in range. I got a call around 9am that his bull was down and we rallied our troops. The best troops. The best people.

6pm we were back to the truck and had the most relaxing half hour I’ve maybe ever had. Tired, hungry, generous, grateful people are the best kind of people. We shared our leftovers from the mountain and the stashes we had left in our trucks.

When we got home, and one of our best friends came over to celebrate and help us hang our elk in the garage, our neighbors who had just got back from hunting were hooting and hollering out of their ATV as they pulled in. Our garage was their first stop.

Thank-you. Everybody. I know this app is saturated with big-game content, especially this time of year. Every hunt is a story, and while this post doesn’t even scratch the surface of this one …(buy Colbs a beer if you wanna hear the long version) I do want to tell a bit of it. Elk hunting is hard. Good friends are sooooo good. Elevation is worse coming down. Beer taste way better with an elk in the truck.

Elk 2026.

Photos from a few years ago. Saskatchewan. The colours, of course, are unbelievable. It’s Saskatchewan in fall. But something about the b&w touched me more than even the colour. Maybe it’s nostalgia.

I’m going through old SD cards so more black and white might be in this feeds future. Happy autumn my friends

A busy fridge is love. A busy boy cleaning fish at the sink is love.
I’m surrounded.

A borrowed boat, familiar water, the same old dog, and a new day. We’ve seen this water before but never from this angle. We’ll be back again, I’m sure for something new.

Harvest party 2026 was a success! We’re so grateful for friends and family. How special to gather people at our little corner in the world. Home is not a home without community no matter how big or small. Happiest I’ve been in a long time to share a slice of the abbsandcolb project. It’s a lifetime project, it grows and grows and grows. And that’s what we’re about.

Love big,

A month apart.
Man, is summer fleeting. Also, I just have to acknowledge how much growth we’ve been doing in the same amount of time.

Colbs and I get out of town most weekends, but we are always jonesing to get back on Sunday to check on these beauties and see what’s progressed. It’s hard to notice growth during the weeks, but a couple days away and the progress is so clear.

What we don’t get is a weekend away from ourselves. It’s harder to see the transformations and growth when you’re constantly in it, but that’s also why I’m so stoked about this photo-journal we’ve been running. I’m so grateful to be growing everyday. We can’t count it in inches or over a month long period, but when I take the time to look back I’m so grateful for how we’ve been nourished up until this point.

These guys are annuals and will eventually wither, but come next season we will be even more ready to put new ones in the ground and reflect once again on growth and space and the do’s and dont’s of over-fertilization and it will all be a reflection on this life we are living ourselves.

Happy gardening and happy growing.
