Ceramic vessels masquerading as cardboard and tape; a cascading tower of silverware-as-sculpture; solid wood draped as though it were silk. This was my second time at the Homo Faber Biennial—my first as a contributor to the @homofaber Guide, for which I profiled several of the featured craftspeople—and I was somehow even more gobsmacked by the artistry and ingenuity behind the hundreds of objects on display 🏺🎨💫. Honored to have played a (very small) role in this extraordinary event.

Cuando recibí la invitación de parte de @andrea.g.tomasi @lexifadina 🙏❤️ para ser la Craft Expert por Latinoamerica y tener la posibilidad de postular 100 artesanos/proyectos, no entre en mi cuerpo de la felicidad. La misma que están sintiendo cada uno de los que pudieron ir alli. Today, the spotlight belongs to them. Thank you @HomoFaber, for the privilege of allowing me to serve as a bridge for Latin American talent. When I received the invitation of @andrea.g.tomasi @lexifadina 🙏❤️ to become a Craft Expert for Latin America, I could hardly contain my excitement. It’s the very same feeling each of them is experiencing there today. El trabajo del Colectivo Mangle —integrado por los artistas colombianos Diego Álvarez y María Paula Alvarez— se ubica en la intersección entre el arte contemporáneo, el diseño de objeto y los oficios artesanales tradicionales, con un enfoque casi obsesivo por la madera y sus posibilidades formales. Su sello distintivo radica en cómo desafían la rigidez natural del material. A través de técnicas complejas como el doblado al vapor, el ensamble de piezas diminutas y el tejido artesanal, transforman listones rígidos en formas orgánicas, fluidas y de apariencia elástica. En sus piezas, la madera deja de verse como un bloque sólido y rígido para comportarse casi como un textil o una fibra viva que se trenza, se curva y serpentea en el espacio. @colectivo_mangle

Esta percepción resulta más real que metafórica al entender que gran parte del lugar fue edificado mediante la técnica de la tapia pisada.' 📍Booth K 02 Cordoaria Nacional, Lisboa Mayo 28 - 31, 2026 ________ 'Barichara, a reddish town nestled among mountains and canyons, seems to rise out of the very earth on which it stands. This perception is more real than metaphorical when one understands that much of the town was built using the tapia pisada (rammed earth) technique.' #SGRGalería
